REMEMBER
Remember the sky that you were born under,
know each of the star’s stories.
Remember the moon, know who she is.
Remember the sun’s birth at dawn, that is the
strongest point of time. Remember sundown
and the giving away tonight.
Remember your birth, how your mother struggled
to give you form and breath. You are evidence of
her life, and her mother’s, and hers.
Remember your father. He is your life, also.
Remember the earth whose skin you are:
red earth, black earth, yellow earth, white earth
brown earth, we are earth.
Remember the plants, trees, animal life who all have their
tribes, their families, their histories, too. Talk to them,
listen to them. They are alive poems.
Remember the wind. Remember her voice. She knows the
origin of this universe.
Remember you are all people and all people
are you.
Remember you are this universe and this
universe is you.
Remember all is in motion, is growing, is you.
Remember language comes from this.
Remember the dance language is, that life is.
Remember.

“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can't go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does.”
Margaret Atwood - The Penelopiad
Autumn Lore
by Kathleen Jenks
Art by Lucy Grossmith
As autumn returns to earth's northern hemisphere,
and day and night are briefly,
but perfectly,
balanced at the equinox,
may we remember anew how fragile life is ----
human life, surely,
but also the lives of all other creatures,
trees and plants,
waters and winds.
May we make wise choices in how and what we harvest,
may earth's weather turn kinder,
may there be enough food for all creatures,
may the diminishing light in our daytime skies
be met by an increasing compassion and tolerance
in our hearts.
To look at another woman with inspiration rather than the green eyes of envy.
To love another woman as a sister, rather than seeing them as the enemy.
To remember we each hold a love so vast and powerful it could heal the world,
To realize within our femininity is a strength that can move mountains,
That can either heal or crush another’s soul,
To take our responsibility as the wardens of Mother Earth as a privilege, rather than a burden.
To embrace and engage with the unspoken within and without.
To heal our wounds consciously for ourselves, our ancestors, future generations and one another.
To allow the feelings to flow through,
To be acknowledged and let go.
To observe,
To speak from the heart,
To accept our vulnerabilities as strength,
Sister, I see you as you speak your truth,
Sister, I honor you as you claim who you are,
Sister, I hold you as you rise to who you are destined to be.

“Every woman that finally figured out her worth, has picked up her suitcases of pride and boarded a flight to freedom, which landed in the valley of change.”
Shannon L. Alder
Konstantin Spassky - Bathing N**e, 1917.
“You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby.
But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
Margery Williams Bianco - The Velveteen Rabbit, 1922.

“On a dark-moon night, Barn Owl swoops low over the fields. Her wingbeats are not only nearly silent but create a wake of quietude, a vortex of otherness. Crossing her path feels like crossing over into elsewhere.
And so, Barn Owl has long been a messenger between the worlds, bringing word from the realm of spirits and ghosts.
Barn Owl hunts even on the darkest nights, her ears picking up the small chattering of mice and the soft sound of grass brushing against a rabbit’s skin . . . or maybe she simply senses their souls as they go about their nightly business.
Close your eyes, Barn Owl whispers, and open your ears to the sound of spirit.”

Augusts birthstone is Peridot!
"A glimmer of green like sunlight through the trees, Peridot is a prized gemstone known for its summer spirit, its good-luck vibes, and its uncanny ability to keep you calm and feeling safe no matter what is going on around you. The twinkling green hue was a fave of Cleopatra, she loved to adorn herself in the Emerald of the Evening stone. But even beyond ancient times and tales of Egyptian queens, Peridot has a long and fabled history when it comes to being revered by those in power. High priests and kings were also smitten by this lustrous gem said to ward off evil spirits. "
