Natural disasters are scary for everyone. Sometimes, children forget how to feel safe. For all children, especially those with disabilities, social stories can help.
NAMI NW Piedmont, NC is pleased to enter into a new partnership with the director of Hope After Su***de Loss Support Groups, Jaletta Desmond.
HASL is a support group for family members and friends of people who died by su***de. The group facilitators were originally trained for this mission by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention,(AFSP). They originated in the Town of Davidson and were hosted by Davidson Lifeline.
Their host agency, Davidson Lifeline, is closing. Ms.Desmond, reached out to NAMI Charlotte to see if that NAMI affiliate could sponsor the group. NAMI Charlotte has agreed to โadoptโ the group and NAMI NC supports the adoption. Jaletta has joined NAMI and is now dually trained by NAMI to facilitate NAMI Family Support groups with her AFSP support group facilitator training.
NAMI NW Piedmont, NC has adopted HASL group facilitators in Winston-Salem. Fortunately, with our recent change in Family Support Group schedule we had the opportunity to schedule Hope After Su***de Loss beginning in October of 2024 at the same time the group has been meeting.
The meetings will be virtual via Zoom every second and fourth Tuesday evening, beginning at 6:00. Contact Jaletta (Ja-LEE-da) at [email protected] or 1-980-689-0136 for more information and to register to receive links to these meetings.
