The Heart Attack Thriver
A page dedicated to providing support and tools for anyone who has suffered a Heart Attack!
I’ve been neglecting my moto as of late and today felt called to show her some love! She cleaned up nicely and now I’m in Marina Del Ray enjoying my favourite meal in SoCal at Sustainabowl!
As a recovering “Negative Self Talker” I can totally relate to this and am a huge fan of Bruce Lee and how he lived his life!
Hope this resonates with you too!
Happy Canada to my friends and family up in the Great White North!

This week on T.H.A.T. I will be in conversation with
Dan suffered a life changing brain injury where part of his brain died. He had to learn how to function and even speak properly again. Undeterred, he took his life into his own hands. Understanding the power of the brain is life changing. We are born to heal. Having now trained tens of thousands of people, his story and knowledge about brain training is revolutionary. The miracle of the brain is waiting for you to unleash its power. Incorporate it into your life for undeniable growth. Keep your brain and body connection healthy with a system that will add, research proven, 7-8 quality years to your life. You will leave Dan’s talk inspired, passionate, and empowered to live life to YOUR full potential. (If anyone you know is suffering from immobility and balance loss, from aging to neurological disease, please advise them to attend too. This will change their life and put them confidently back on their feet.)
I’ve seen this sign in Casita Springs many times when and I drive to Ojai (one of our favourite places to day trip).
Yesterday, while on my motorcycle, I felt compelled to stop and take picture so I could send it to my mom knowing it would make her day!
Growing up my mom would often listen to Johnny Cash and so I of course became a fan of his music too! My mom is a big reason I love music so much and that love of music is the “why” behind this picture!
My mom told me she would stand outside my bedroom listening to me sing my heart out to the radio and although I don’t remember said she tried many times to convince me to take guitar lessons and sadly I never did!
When I think back on this as an adult, the only reason I can come up with is that I was so insecure and so worried about what others thought of me that the thought of it was absolutely terrifying to me, so I always said NO!
I now have a guitar here in SoCal and want to once again learn how to play because I know I will love it! I took lessons once before and never stuck with it so on this Mother’s Day, I am making a commitment to myself that I’m going to learn how to play the guitar once and for all!!
Music is in me and now it’s time to start embracing that part of me! So today, ahead of Mother’s Day, I want to celebrate you mom and thank you for instilling in me a LOVE of Music!
Happy Mother’s Day!
I love you!
❤️🙌🏻✨
P.S. My mom will turn 82 on May 18th…and she is struggling!
She lost my dad 2 yrs ago (May 12th, 2022) and on Mother’s Day last year, my older sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor after a seizure she experienced driving to a family gathering. That seizure was the start of her very short Glioblastoma cancer journey and she passed away a 4 months later on September 20th!
These losses so close together has taken a toll on my mom’s health and mental wellbeing and we are noticing a rapid deterioration in her. Sadly here decision to live alone in insolation is not helping and makes me really sad!😔
This is 57!!!
Thank you for all the 4/20 Birthday wishes!! 😉😂
Although the past year brought sadness like I’ve never experienced before with the passing of my big sister it was a gut punch reminder to LIVE YOUR LIFE because tomorrow is NOT Guaranteed!! 💔💔💔
Thanks to and my guardian angel who each helped me in their own special ways to deal with the darkness after Kim transitioned. Thanks for sharing your mom’s story Dan and for letting me know there is proof that Kim is in a better place!!! ❤️
I’m stoked for what this next trip around the sun ☀️ is going to bring!
Much Love!

In 2018 I had decided to relocate to California to explore a new life with my life partner Adrienne. I brought my bikes here because I knew from my son Bayley and all the training he and the Canadian National Cycling team did here that this place was a Mecca for Cycling.
On one of my first rides I rode up on another rider said hello and then proceeded to keep going. I soon turned right onto a side road and got an intuitive hit! “You need to stop and wait for him”.
When he joined me we started talking and one thing led to another and I shared that I had had a Heart Attack to which he replied so did I! That’s what I call the magic. We continued to ride together and before we parted ways we exchanged numbers and have been friends ever since.
Brian has had a challenging journey post Heart Attack and I don’t want to give is amazing and powerful story away so be sure to tune in LIVE tomorrow on Heart Day (Valentines Day) to hear our conversation. Brian is an amazing photographer (thus his photo) and one of his photos amazing pictures graces the wall of our office!!

So picked this bike up from a customer who wanted to trade it in at the shop and it fell below the trade in criteria so o snagged. It’s a sentimental ride for a number of reasons…
1. I owned this exact bike many years ago - 2005 to be exact
2. It was my first Trek Bike I got as a warranty replacement when the bottom bracket on my first ever carbon fibre road bike delaminated. It was a US Postal Trek 5200 and it was the bike that reinvigorated my love and passion for cycling!!
3. It was the start of my loyalty to as they continued to replace and upgrade me with each carbon issue that emerged as they and every other bike manufacturer were learning more and more about carbon layups.
4. I took Trek’s warranty replacement to the max having bikes warranty and upgraded to the equivalent current model bike until it finally ended in a crash in the Crit at the Canadian Road Cycling Championships in 2013

Tomorrow on T.H.A.T. I will be in conversation with Tracy Doherty who suffered from a family condition known as
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy or HCM for short. Her father had been diagnosed when she was only 12 years old. She later learned that she too was also at risk.
It wasn’t until her early 40’s that doctors told her that her conditioned had worsened and that she need to stop all physical activity.
Eventually Tracy was put on a heart transplant list and began the long process of finding a donor match despite what she was told were very low odds.
In April of 2020 Tracy learned that a donor match had been found but because we were in the throes of a Global Pandemic all non-emergency organ transplants were suspended.
Despite being devastated Tracy remained positive and grounded in her faith.
Then to everyone’s surprise Tracy got a call from Cedars-Sinai in LA saying they were going ahead with the transplant. On May 31st, 2020 Tracy was gifted a second chance at life from her heart donor Rick ❤️
I’ll let Tracy share the rest of her powerful story.

Have you ever wonder what Christmas looks like in Southern California compared to Canada?? eh?!
Well here’s a snap shot from -

Have you ever wonder what Christmas looks like in Southern California compared to Canada??
Well here’s a pic shot from during a walk in our neighborhood in this afternoon in Thousand Oaks, CA
Is this a shock to you?? and why have we become a society where we are all about quick fixes??
Have you given any thought to this??
I feel I am “somewhat qualified” to weigh in on this (sorry not sorry for the pun) based on almost 20 years being a drug pusher (Pharma Rep)
and yes I know there is a time and a place for drug interventions but shouldn’t it be a “last resort”?? after lifestyle changes and modifications were not enough??
Where is personal accountability? and I know life is hard…because if it was easy we’d all be wealthy, healthy and happy and sadly that is not the case.
I’d love to hear your comments and feedback!
Much Love!
