This is National Public Works Week, and we're so glad to have this opportunity to thank our own Department of Public Works! Our guys work hard, not only in our parks but City-wide. A lot of that work might be unseen, and they may not be as visible as other departments, but they are there...checking your toilet for free to find a possible water leak source, coming in at 2 a.m. to plow snow off your street, painting the curbs in 90+ degree weather so you know exactly where/where not to park...and so much in our parks that we can't even enumerate here. This year's poster illustrates how public works connects us all through infrastructure and service, enhancing the quality of life for the communities these professionals serve.
Friends of Eric Bouchat: Authority of
Another week has gone by, this one a bit slower than the last and with a bit less drama. This week has been focused on getting caught up on departmental challenges and projects as well as working towards agenda items for June.
- Curaleaf tour with Delegate Bouchat, Councilperson Tillman, and Taneytown Economic Development Director Meashey.
Further work on the ongoing Police Chief vacancy.
- Initial work on PD Holiday Hours
- Additional work on new avenues/ideas for further communication between City Hall & Citizens. As well as additional ways in which to receive information/feedback from Citizens.
- Additional item preparation for the June agenda.
- Work towards listing out issues/projects that are ongoing at each department.
(Note: all issues/work not listed)
Wanted to take the time to thank Delegate Bouchat for making the trip out to Taneytown to come tour the Curaleaf facility, we also took the chance to discuss some of the ongoing issues that Taneytown faces, in particular the traffic situation & need for bypass advocation. We toured around the town for a bit, with Jay Meashey showing the delegate some of the different businesses that have made their home here in Taneytown.
Took some time for the family this week/early next week as we have a couple of birthdays at our house. Happy Birthday to our oldest Claire & my wife Rachael!
Wanted to extend a thank you over to the Taneytown Police Department! The level of service and commitment that they provide to the citizens here does not go unnoticed and one of the prime examples of where the town gets a favorable review is in the interactions between our officers & the citizens. I'm looking forward to working alongside the department for further gains in the area of public safety over these next four years.

Mayor Christopher G. Miller, Taneytown The Opinions & Information from the Mayor of Taneytown. Anything presented is from the Mayor’s office
For my first week, the primary portion of the time has been spent on getting caught up on City affairs. While I expect some of the bigger issues to be held up by Council, which I'm still working on building that relationship & getting past some of the adversarial tones, I've started handling some of the issues that I can help make some headway on as Mayor. Some of the projects/events that I've been to/working on this week:
--------
Inquiring about the Postal Service Location & Possible Solutions.
The Handoff of the Taneytown Business Breakfast back to the
Chamber of Commerce in Taneytown, starting July 2023
Additional visibility/Enforcement for the Divern St entrance
Inquiring into further broadband solutions for the town
Initial meetings on autonomous vehicle corridor
Inquiries into the Water Quality
Attended the 8th Annual Drug Overdose and Prevention Vigil
Additional work towards finding a new Police Chief
Placing Chickens on the agenda for council Discussion in June
Meetings w/ a variety of citizens on ongoing concerns here in town including sports, fences, and traffic
Working towards plans on making sure Council are more involved, and informed in their respective liaison departments.
Better avenues for citizens communication & feedback
Inquiring on additional traffic calming measures for Roberts Mills
Working with the City Manager on getting caught up on current affairs here in town, and working on issues that we have more immediate solutions for. I must give Jim, over at City Hall, some props for keeping up with all of my questions & making sure that the items I've asked about are being looked into.
Working with Acting Police Chief Bob Mitchell on getting caught up at issues facing the Taneytown Police Department, who's also been tremendously helpful in getting me caught up.
-------
While not everything is listed up here, it has no doubt been a busy week as I play catch up on some of the issues that have fallen to the side. I will be working at weekly postings of some of the issues being worked on, and while not all can be posted up, I intend to make it clear that there is much being worked on.
I'll be working hard at issues/solutions that can be pushed forward without Council support, as I'm expecting to experience pushback until some of the election resentment dies down. However, I'm looking forward to working with Council on moving the town forward, once they're prepared to do so.
I appreciate the Council members who have made it clear that they plan to work alongside me to bring forth a vision of Taneytown that works best for all here. It has not gone unnoticed and I look forward to their help through these next four years.
**Water main break update** 5/10/23 - 9:00PM
Water main break has been repaired and water has been restored along Broad St. and on Roberts Mill Rd. from Antrim St. to Baumgardner Ave.
Today marks a new chapter for Taneytown. These next four years I’m going to be working to not only solidify the town's position in the county, but to strengthen it. I’ll be working on behalf of the citizens to make sure that they’re receiving the full benefit of their tax dollars.
Throughout the campaign, there’s been some perceived animosity towards people. To me, the politics aspect of an election is just that, politics. I am looking to put that to the side and work on behalf of all residents, no matter who they are. These four years are a clean slate and we must work will all available partners to move the town forward, no matter what happened with the election or what was said.
I’m looking forward to working with all citizens, businesses, and partners out there. I remain true to my commitment that first and foremost, I serve the citizens of Taneytown, and that I am their advocate. There will be some tough decisions to make, however, I ask that you believe in me as I work towards getting things back in order.
When it comes to working with the council, I’m looking forward to it. However, we have stuff to get done and we can not let certain factions hold this process up.
It’s time for four years of working for you!
All Invited to Veterans Celebration on May 7th All Invited to Veterans Celebration on May 7th Carroll County MD Government sent this bulletin at 04/27/2023 11:11 AM EDT --- PRESS RELEASE --- For Immediate Release All Invited to Veterans Celebration on May 7th Westminster, MD, Thursday, April 27, 2023 – The Carroll County Board of Commissioners...
Firstly, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all those who have supported me throughout these past few months. Since the election, I have been diligently working to get up to speed and address some initial items on Monday's agenda. My goal is to quickly address immediate problems with the support of the council and then shift my focus to more complex issues that require further investigation.
I kindly ask for your patience over the next three weeks as I work to respond to everyone and participate in events while also addressing pressing city affairs. I am committed to putting forth my best effort, just as I did during the campaign, and intend to continue doing so going forward.
I have been working closely with the City Manager to stay on top of ongoing issues and have been doing my best to respond promptly. However, my phone has been ringing non-stop since the election, so please bear with me as I catch up.
In the coming weeks, I will share more about my plans for May and June, but for now, I want to express my deep appreciation to the citizens who supported me at the polls. Without your support, I would not have won. I am truly grateful to everyone who took the time to vote.
I would like to extend a special thank you to my wife, Rachael Miller, for her unwavering support from the start of my campaign. I also want to acknowledge the Carroll County FOP Lodge 20 for their endorsement, which means a great deal to me. I also want to thank the numerous people who gave me advice on my campaign, that without, I might not be here now. It was my first time campaigning, so their advice really helped shape up the campaign. Overall, while tiring, I thoroughly enjoyed campaigning, meeting the citizens, and being out there for election day!
Thank you all for your faith in me, and I am excited to serve you for the next four years.
I am scheduled to be officially sworn in on May 8th at Taneytown City Hall during the council meeting. The meeting begins at 7:30 PM, and the swearing-in will take place towards the end. I invite everyone who would like to share this moment with me and our two incoming council members to attend.
Thanks again everyone for the support! Had a lot of fun throughout the campaign and it was an awesome experience. I’m still catching up on all the texts, messages, and emails. Thank you everyone for the congratulations, couldn’t have done this without y’all!
Will get a more formal thank you up later.
For sign collection, we will be coming out on May 3rd to pick up signs that are out on lawns. If you’d like to keep your sign, please put it inside.
On May 5th, we’ll do another round to make sure we got any left out as well as pick up the big signs.

The campaigns final mailers should be heading to mailboxes this weekend.
Since the start I've ran on the premise that the Mayor's office is meant to be the advocate of the people. I truly believe that this has not been the case these past four years and that is what has led me to run. I'm running against two candidates that currently hold office in City Hall. A sitting councilmen, and a sitting mayor.
As you head to vote this Monday, I ask that you ask yourself some simple questions: What has the councilmen/mayor done these past four years? And why am I just now seeing them again when it's time to get votes? These solutions and issues they talk about, what have they done these past four years to work on them?
The answer is also very simple, these elected officials both chose not to be involved for four years, outside of photo shoots, and only come around when it's time to get your vote. It's what has led me to run. I believe the people deserve a stronger voice in their town, and that their representatives should be available to them all four years of their terms, not just at election time. I believe we should work on these issues, instead of just using them as talking points every 4 years.
Both had every opportunity to work and implement these changes/ideas that they talk about, but for the most part they've done none of what they promised in 2019. Here they are in 2023, talking about the same problems that they were supposed to address in 2019 as if we don't remember.
Through all of this, I have worked constantly with citizens to prepare myself to address the issues that they face here in town. Primarily public safety, representation/communication, and economic development. I have demonstrated my resolve to work for the citizens, and will continue that for fours years. I hope that I have earned your vote come May 1st.

I believe we'll be taking home the win on Monday, regardless of what happens though, I am extremely proud of the campaign that we've ran and as a complete outsider, it's been amazing the strides we've made. I want to thank everyone who has supported me, put a sign up, worn a shirt, everyone who has volunteered, or even just helped spread the word. It's been a truly amazing experience, and I hope to see y'all out on Monday!
With your vote this Monday, we the people of Taneytown will win.
In early April, all three Mayor candidates were invited out to Carroll County FOP Lodge 20 to give our vision for the future of the Taneytown PD. Today I received word that they've chosen to endorse me for Mayor of Taneytown. Since the start of my campaign I've iterated my stance on building the department up to be a model of small town/community policing. I'm looking to work on that vision come May 1st, and am honored & humbled to receive the endorsement of Carroll County FOP Lodge 20.
I don't go around asking for endorsements, but this is one I'm truly humbled to receive. I believe the hard work and work ethic put behind a campaign should show your intentions. In this case I believe Taneytown Police Department understands the vision I have for the department and I can say I'm looking forward to working with them.
I appreciate the officers placing their trust in me, and Carroll County FOP Lodge 20 for the endorsement.
It's truly an honor to receive this endorsement. Everything I've done since I announced has been towards creating a City that works for all residents here. As a candidate who's never campaigned or ran for office before, it's been challenging going against sitting politicians, but I've put in the work and can say I'm proud of the campaign I've ran.
I hope I've earned your vote, and appreciate all the support I have received. I'm looking forward to the endorsement of the citizens of Taneytown come May 1st!
Hope to see y'all out on election day!
