Over the past 8 months, we ran a campaign that I am incredibly proud of—we ran a positive grassroots campaign focused on delivering a fair, equitable, and inclusive education system for every BCPS student. Unfortunately, while we earned the vote of over 15,000 residents in District 4, we came up just short of winning the election. In a race with 31,000 votes cast, we fell short of victory by less than 900 votes.

While this was not the outcome we hoped for when we began this journey, I am extremely grateful for all the support and encouragement we received along the way. I want to especially thank my family, friends, campaign staff, and volunteers who logged countless hours knocking on doors, at the polls, putting up signs, making phone calls, and writing postcards. Thank you for helping spread a vision for BCPS where every student—no matter the zip code they come from or the school they go to—receives a 21st-century education and is afforded every opportunity to succeed. I also remain honored to have earned the support of countless leaders and organizations in our community—thank you for your belief in me to represent our community and to help move Baltimore County forward. I wish the incoming new Board of Education the best of luck as they take on the challenges facing BCPS and chart the future of education in Baltimore County.

Guided by the principles of equity, justice, and opportunity I remain committed to fighting the good fight and doing whatever I can to help better our community and County—especially when it comes to fighting for our children, our future, and those who have been underserved for far too long. As I move forward on this journey I hope to continue to earn your support, encouragement, and positivity. Here is to the next chapter of bettering our community—let's get to work!

Tomorrow is Election Day! I'm excited to be on the precipice of building a 21st-century education system for our students, teachers, and families. I will work to ensure that our schools give all of our students—no matter their background or zip code—every opportunity to succeed.

Please remember to get out and vote tomorrow! My mom and I have—I wonder who she voted for?

Tuesday is Election Day! I am proud to support Board of Education candidates Jane Lichter of District 2 and Samay Kindra of District 4. Jane and Samay will put the needs of our students first, ensure our teachers receive the support they need to thrive in the classroom and deliver bold reforms to create meaningful change. A vote for Jane and Samay is a vote for the future of our children.

Thank you Senator Shelly Hettleman for your support!

I am proud to join teachers in Baltimore County in endorsing Jane Lichter and Samay Kindra for the important position of Board of Education.

I’ve had 2 groups of voters today yell at me and say they would never vote for a “foreigner.” Each time it happened, a different wonderful stranger came up to me to make sure I was ok.

It reminded me of something I often tell others but have to remind myself of sometimes too: even with all the darkness in our world, there is always light.

Had an awesome time at the Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival this weekend and was happy to run into one of the next State Delegates for District 10, Jennifer White! It was an event that truly showcased Baltimore County's amazing diversity.

Also had the pleasure of joining the Baltimore County Progressive Democrats at their Summer Picnic. The remarks given by Senator Van Hollen and the next comptroller of Maryland, Brooke Lierman, reminded us why this election is so important for our County and our State.

So happy to announce the addition of Kevin Thigpen as our field organizer! I am so grateful to have him on our team as we work to provide a world-class education in District 4 and Baltimore County!

Kevin is an accounting student at Bellevue University, who is joining our team after volunteering for the Franchot Campaign! When not helping us organize in the community, you can find him playing basketball or video games. Make sure to say hello when you see him out in the community!

Happy first week of school to all the kids, parents, administrators, educators & school professionals! Wishing everyone a successful year ahead!

Here's a first-day throwback from my days at New Town Elementary. I wouldn't be where I am today without Baltimore County Schools!

We did it! With 4,500 votes we are moving on to the General in November! I want to thank my family, friends, and all the volunteers who put in hours of work to help get us to this point. We truly could not have done it without all of your help.

The work is not done yet, however! I look forward to your support as we move ahead to the General election in November! I will work tirelessly to ensure that our students receive the 21st-century education they deserve.

Thank you!

Election day is tomorrow! I am so proud of the hard work we have put in to connect with voters—we have emphasized the importance of this election and spread our message of an inclusive, equitable, and responsive 21st century education that will prepare all of our graduates to succeed. I am excited about the new perspective I will bring as a K-12 BCPS Graduate and young adult who understands the demands of today’s world.
Little Samay pictured here did not imagine running for office in his wildest dream—he would be shocked to know we went from feeling like we didn’t belong in our own schools to running for the opportunity to better them. I hope we earn your vote tomorrow so we can keep surprising little Samay.

So incredibly grateful to have such amazing volunteers and supporters. Throughout this campaign my family and friends have helped more than I could have ever imagined—without them none of this would be possible. It was especially touching to see how excited they were to knock on doors today even in the rain. You all are the best!

We are ecstatic to announce the endorsement of Speaker Adrienne Jones and the District 10 Unity Team!

As I look to become the first Sikh elected to office in Maryland, I am especially grateful to have the opportunity to work with and learn from Speaker Jones who made history herself by becoming the first African-American and the first woman Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. I am excited to work closely with the District 10 Team in Annapolis to develop an education system that will work for all students, families, and educators.
