Pot au feu is one of those classic, homey French meals. Despite the hype, it's incredibly easy to make. It's also perfect for chilly winter suppers.

Our version uses beef short ribs, but other cuts like pot roast work equally well. We go heavy on the garlic, but adjust to your tastes. More than any other dish, pot au feu is an individual expression.

Heading to the farmers' market early on a Saturday morning is the highlight of my week. I never know what wonders I'll find, what inspiration will strike as I wander the aisles and poke in the stalls.

While I'm usually on the hunt for great produce, I just couldn't say "non" to this beautiful bouquet of autumn flowers.

Like cooking, art is transformative.

Walking the pup today, I happened across an artist creating a mural. I was transfixed as I watched her use brushes - and even paint rollers! - to bring her vision to life.

We have scores of murals lining the retaining walls of the train line that runs through the village. You don't often get to see one being painted though - it's magical, and more than a bit inspiring.

Early July means it's cherry season!

Every Saturday morning, I get up early and head out for a walk with the Gala. A typical lab, she's happily surprised by everything along the way. I have a travel mug filled with strong coffee, and am equally happy.

After our walk, I head over to the farmers' market. And in July, I buy heaps of tart red cherries. The afternoon is spent pitting and freezing them - they are ideal for cherry pies and tarts when the snow flies.

No matter what you're cooking today, happy cooking!

Like many in France, I am a huge fan of Cyril Lignac. The celebrity chef has an easy style and his dishes are very accessible. As a French chef, he often introduces new flavors and ingredients while maintaining a very French take on his dishes.

This leek salad is a perfect example. Leeks are poached in a traditional way. But a yellow curry vinaigrette and tangy yogurt sauce make this a throughly modern dish.

The dish takes a whopping 16 minutes to prepare. And, because it's served chilled, you can easily prepare the components in advance and assemble them when you're ready.

It's unseasonably cool. Chard and pea shoots shiver in the steely grey wind. Walking with the dog this morning, I came across these gorgeous blooms. Spring is coming to the village, even if it's more slowly than I'd like.

What culinary dreams does springtime inspire in you?

Such a crazy easy and delicious spring salad!

Blanch the asparagus and peas. Toss some arugula with a bit of lemon juice. Add cheese, sliced cherry tomatoes, and Kalamata olives. Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and salt / pepper to taste.

A slice or two of crusty bread and you have a great side or entree salad. Fresh, fast, and healthy - just what we need for spring!

A refreshing salad that’s ready in a snap. Canned tuna (really!) packed in olive oil is moist and flavorful. Serve it over a bed of greens, shaved turnips and cucumber, and sliced tomatoes for a crunchy, peppery, twist on tuna niçoise.

Tomates farcis, or stuffed tomates, are delicious and super easy to make. The tomatoes are filled with a mix of pork sausage and diced tomatoes. A simple bread crumb topping adds a nice crunch. Roast the tomatoes on a bed of diced, parboiled potatoes topped with butter for a terrific one-pan dinner.

Chilled zucchini soup with feta, hazelnuts, and a drizzle of hazelnut oil. Bright and refreshing! Bring it on, summer! I’m ready.
