For Immediate Release:
From: The Office of Sheriff
Date: June 25, 2024
On June 25, 2024, at approximately 7:17 A.M., a man in custody at the Washington County Jail was found by a jailer unresponsive. The inmate was received from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for housing on June 14, 2024. Today, the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. Emergency Medical Professional responded to the scene, and the inmate was found to be deceased. The Eastman Office of Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Washington County Coroner’s Office were called to investigate further because it was an in-custody death as our policy outlines . An autopsy will be conducted on the inmate for an official cause of death; however, it appears the inmate died from what seems to be a medical event due to an underlying medical condition. Let it also be known that the inmate was in a cell of his own at the time of incident. This case will remain active by the GBI.
