Thank you Lt. Keith Thompson, Sgt. Rudy Grant, and Cpl. David Raley for taking time to work with this group. We look forward to hosting upcoming events in the near future….

As Sheriff of this community, I congratulate yesterday’s RSAT graduates! This graduation is an important day for you and deserves to be celebrated.

These seven men completed this tough program, and one earned their high school diploma. To all the graduates, your hard work and dedication have paid off. You faced many challenges and showed real determination.

Since its inception in 2021, the RSAT program has achieved an impressive 22 percent recidivism rate, demonstrating its effectiveness in helping participants turn their lives around.

During the six-month program, many community partners helped in your rehabilitation and recovery. These included Oconee Fall Line Technical College, The University of Georgia County Extension Office, Archway Partnership, Family Connection, Washington County Health Department, Middle Judicial District Circuit Office, Superior Court of Washington County, East Central WorkSource Georgia, Dr. Annise Mabry Foundation, City of Tennille, City of Sandersville, local churches, The Vital Link Center, and many caring citizens.

For Immediate Release:

From: The Office of Sheriff

Date: June 25, 2024

On June 25, 2024, at approximately 7:17 A.M., a man in custody at the Washington County Jail was found by a jailer unresponsive. The inmate was received from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for housing on June 14, 2024. Today, the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. Emergency Medical Professional responded to the scene, and the inmate was found to be deceased. The Eastman Office of Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Washington County Coroner’s Office were called to investigate further because it was an in-custody death as our policy outlines . An autopsy will be conducted on the inmate for an official cause of death; however, it appears the inmate died from what seems to be a medical event due to an underlying medical condition. Let it also be known that the inmate was in a cell of his own at the time of incident. This case will remain active by the GBI.
