I.Can.Not.Believe.THIS!!! -
I.Can.Not.Believe.THIS!!! I am pinching myself- after spending SO much time on the floor of Target playing with toys and sharing tips, ONE OF MY BOOKS IS ON SHELVES!
SLP Stephanie Cohen uses social media to clarify and educate on developmental milestones. In her private practice and online, she provides clear, honest, evidence-based information about communication and feeding development, often using ASHA’s developmental milestones. Her goal is to dispel myths, combat misinformation, and help parents feel more confident. Read more: https://on.asha.org/3yQeoEZ
Professionals- if my tips on mealtime have been helpful for you, this is a deeper dive into how important connection and communication is to successful mealtimes. I include SO many videos so you can really see how effective good communication can be!
Effective communication establishes connection, supports the strengthening of relationships between parents and children, and supports a child’s ability to learn and grow at mealtimes.
Available now On Demand:
The Power of Communication and Connection at Mealtime
with Stephanie Cohen, M.A., CCC-SLP, CLC
Learn how to understand a child’s cues and communication and how to respond supportively, to allow for trust to grow in a truly responsive feeding way.
I loved my conversation with Elise Solé for TODAY Parents on why some babies and toddlers say "dada" before "mama!" We broke down the science behind a recent viral video and it's SO good.
Also grateful for the mention of my two newest books, The I Can Say Mama Book and The I Can Say Dada Book (Sourcebooks)!
The scientific reason why babies often say 'dada' first instead of 'mama' Don’t take it personally!
Share your baby must-have and help expecting parents be ready! What was essential for your newborn? What made your life easier with your new baby?
There are definitely more on my list, but this was my #1 way to help baby sleep better, help us sleep better and eventually, sleep through the night! Then I could actually think straight-sort of.
Comment “new baby” to get a message & see all of my recs!

Perfect scripts for handling tricky food-related commentary during the holidays (or any time!) from Laura Hellfeld Neurodivergent Nurse Consulting!
Tis the season for group gatherings that often centre on a shared meal.
Practicing a few scripts ahead of time may help you navigate those meal times and feel more confident when advocating for your child's needs - or even your own!

Image Description: An image of a grey background with a large, rounded corner pink square in the middle. Title text is Navigating Holiday Events, some helpful scripts for when there are comments about your child's eating... Additional text in pink square are 'thanks for offering but they are happy with the food they already have', 'our family rule is that no one has to eat a food that they don't want to' & 'I'm happy with what they ate for supper. Can they have their dessert please?'. There are three teal and blue snowflakes around the image.
🏃🏻♀️ 🤚 1-year-olds are on the move, still figuring out how to use their hands, and learning how to use objects.
👉They also will begin to play in new ways, using objects together in play and beginning to understand pretend play.
🚛We can choose toys that cover all of this AND language learning!
👶6-12 months holiday toy gift guide is here! You can still keep around lots of the toys I recommended for 0 to 6 months, and add some new ones that will also last you through many stages of development!
💙6-12 month olds babies are learning to sit, move, and use their hands in new ways.
🚗They’re learning about how lots of different objects work!
🎤 They’re also learning to use their voice to make different sounds, and starting to maybe imitate a few words!
😁Chose books with faces (like mine!) and simple pictures to capture your baby’s attention. Try to read to your baby daily!
Do you have any of these? Did I leave something you love off the list? Tell me about it!
*Disclaimer: Always check the manufacturer recommended age for toys before giving them to your child.
🎁 Holiday Toy Guides are here!

🥰 My recommendations are going to last you through different stages of development. I’m big on toys that grow WITH your child and I’ve thought carefully about which ones give you the biggest bang for your buck.
Babies in the 0-6 months range are working on their vision, how to use their hands, and how to communicate.
Choose toys that allow baby safe unrestrained space to play, like activity mats (I share one that has 5 different configurations to grow with your baby!).
Choose lightweight rings and rattles at first to give baby things to learn to hold. Then, graduate to the Oball, the Winkel, the Noggin Stik, Whirly Squigz, or Pip Squigz for more to explore!
Chose high-contrast books and books with faces (like mine!) to capture your young baby’s attention. Try to read to your baby daily from the start!
Choose items with lots of textures to feel, like the FlipFish and soft books.
*Disclaimers:
-You DON’T have to spend a lot on toys! Look for these items in pass-it-on groups or see if friends are ready to hand them down OR learn from the developmental info I share and find things around your house to support 0-6 month skills!*
-ALWAYS check the manufacturer's recommended age for toys before using
