How to get yourself out of a funky state!

Sometimes it feels difficult getting from one emotion that makes you feel unpleasant to a desired emotion, For example going from sad to happy).

Sometimes we don’t even know what we want to feel we just know that the current feeling sucks and we wish we could change it.

When we are stuck in an unpleasant feeling (I’ll refer to “feelings” as “states”) it can be difficult to make a jump from the unwanted state to the desired state. The two states may feel too far out of reach from one another. So one important thing that you can start practicing is taking small steps towards the state you’d like to experience.

If going from sad to happy seems too far out of reach think about what could get you out of the state of sadness. For some it can be optimism, for others it can be curiosity. Just having the smallest state that gets you out of sadness can get you to feel different and allow you to shift your focused and attention towards the desired state you are seeking to feel.

Some great questions to ask yourself to get you out of the unwanted state could be:

“If I weren’t ______, what would I be?
“What do I want to feel instead of _______?”

You can also ask this question and then go do the action

“What would I be doing if I wasn’t _(negative state)_?”

OR

“What would I be doing if I was _(positive state)_?”
