CG Jung Workshops with Nancy Cook
For everyone who's fascinated with CG Jung and still hungry to go deeper. 30+ years experience.
This is not the right color for the beautiful autumn all around us, but it's just fun.
I received a very sweet bouquet for my birthday 2 weeks ago and this gerbera daisy is all that's left of it -- it still looks fresh (and sort of crazy).
How do we "Tend to the World Soul?" 🌎🌍🌏
Will you join us -- and help us celebrate??
20 years ago, a majority of the remarkable and world-renowned analysts at the CG Jung Institute in Küsnacht, with deep regret and sorrow, left their beloved Institute in order to create a new Training Institute in central Zurich: ISAPZURICH
This new institute carried with it the required certification by the IAAP (International Association of Analytical Psychology):
ISAP 'inherited' -- according to the IAAP -- the role of Jungian analytic training that was formerly in Küsnacht.
20 years later, ISAPZURICH is a thriving and unique school, the only 100% residential (living and attending in Zurich) analytic training program in the world.
It's also one of the very few analyst training programs that are open to professionals who are not yet licensed psychotherapists.
Students learn the all fundamentals of psychology needed --
I know ☺️ because I'm in the psychiatry department, teaching things like the new discoveries in the NEUROSCIENCE of TRAUMA.
You can help ISAP celebrate and, through attending the lecture series, you can join in the extremely important discussion:
What can we do in the current state of crisis and confusion to help tend to the WORLD SOUL.
THE 2 DAY LECTURE SERIES

"Will explore the theme of our relationship to the world soul and reflect on the restorative order of the Self as a way of tending to the world soul.
We hope [to] shed light on the meaning of our anxieties, especially in relation to the current world crisis with its political strife, wars, epidemics, and ecological crisis.
We will focus on some of the burning questions of our times as seen through the lens of the relationship between the conscious mind and the unconscious, both on the personal and collective levels."

Many loved this poppy photo. In this poem, the poppy is speaking to us humans...
The Red Poppy
By Louise Glück
The great thing
is not having
a mind. Feelings:
oh, I have those; they
govern me. I have
a lord in heaven
called the sun, and open
for him, showing him
the fire of my own heart, fire
like his presence.
What could such glory be
if not a heart? Oh my brothers and sisters,
were you like me once, long ago,
before you were human? Did you
permit yourselves
to open once, who would never
open again? Because in truth
I am speaking now
the way you do. I speak
because I am shattered.

In Social Media everywhere: "Alchemy this and Alchemy that"..it's a favorite word for advertising these days.
But what were the REAL ALCHEMISTS doing, and why is it so important?
One thing: Alchemy provides a road map for our own private inner work.
It's the language of the unconscious -- i.e., images and emotions. This was Jung's great discovery.
It tells us, using metaphors, that we must go through massive changes in our steps towards healing and/or finding our creativity.
The stages of Alchemy (operations) describe the various possible steps we go through. When we dream them, or notice them all around us, it means we are likely in that phase ourselves.
Recognizing which phase we are in helps us make use of it and get through it!
Edward Edinger's Anatomy of the Psyche is an incredible guide to making sense of what the alchemists were saying -- without losing the beauty and over-simplifying.
All of my alchemy workshops were built up from many years working to translate alchemy into real life together with many brave souls ☺😌 in my reading groups and courses (You know who you are!!! -- if you happen to read this post, let us know in a comment! We will pay our respects!!!)
Can we ever use Jung's alchemy in practical ways?
To get access to the profound wisdom in it?
-- Wisdom about how to understand and work with our psyche to heal old wounds, and make scary and painful life changes --
Yes....even though it is such a rich and very complicated and confusing universe.
Because for years I've been finding ways to make it more accessible -- mostly thanks to the many amazing people who join my Alchemy reading groups and courses.
I hope you'll join us at the CJC in November!

I'm actually proud of all that I was able to convey in this podcast. -- thanks to Rebecca Kochenderfer 's clear questions and far reaching curiosity about how Jungians work with dreams, why they are so incredibly valuable...

"How do we actually DO 'Inner Work' ??
...Alchemy provides a road map"
This is a much loved topic that I teach -- loved because it is practical and people can actually USE it. I can translate alchemy -- without watering it down or over-simplifying it -- thanks to my 30 years of studying and USING alchemy in my work with people who are going through huge life transitions.
>>> Coming this November at Cambridge Jungian Circle, in person and on-line.
Alchemy is about emotional psychological processes. It tells us, using metaphors, that we must go through changes in our steps towards healing and/or finding our creativity.
The stages of Alchemy (operations) describe the various possible steps we go through. When we dream them, or notice them all around us, it means we are likely in that phase ourselves. Recognising which phase, we are in helps us make use of it and get through it!
Alchemy is the language of the unconscious -- i.e., images and emotions. This was Jung's great discovery.
In this plenary -- using case examples and experiential exercises -- we will learn about some of the steps in an alchemical transformation, so that we can recognize them as part of our own (psychological) process. This in turn helps us find guidance and inspiration for psychological healing and growth.

“If you just look at the clinical evidence of a century now of Jungian dream interpretation, you will see that looking at dreams and interpreting them is an extremely powerful way of
helping people heal themselves.
It’s also how people become more themselves and individuate.”
From my podcast in The Power of Journaling
with Rebecca Kochenderfer
OK.....but why are dreams so horrible sometimes...?!
And why should innocent children have to suffer with nightmares...?
Who dreamed this up anyway...? 😣😂
We really need to understand this to get the most out of our dreams. Let me know if you want more info on this....it's a SUPER important part of learning how to work with our dreams.

Dreams and Journaling
I just had so much fun talking with Rebecca Kochenderfer for her podcast Journaling.com about how essential journaling is for working with our dreams.
what I said:
When we are asleep at night, when we stop interacting with the world around us and are open to our unconscious psyche, dreams come to us with wildly complicated emotions and stories. ...WHY?
Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung discovered that these messages are bringing us very valuable information about ourselves. They're giving advice, in a way, that is coming from our deepest mysterious and unknown Self.
Dreams show us that deep inside, there is a precious source of wisdom about who we really are, our most true selves. That wisdom wants to help us heal old wounds and go forward to become more fully our unique selves, in a happier life.
As Jungian Analyst and Depth Psychotherapist, I've been helping people to understand what their dreams are trying to tell them for 28 years. And I have more than 30 years of working with my own dreams, with help from some of the top analysts in the world."
Rebecca Kochenderfer asked me to lay out a guide for how we can learn from our dreams by journaling them. Well, what a great idea -- there is sooooooooo much to say that can help people.

THE CREATIVE UNCONSCIOUS IS LIKE A BEAUTIFUL FERTILE VERDANT BLOSSOMING GARDEN....
"It seemed like such a 'brilliant' idea 🤩🌟💫 but now I'm just tired and in a bad mood and can't think...😣"
"I've written these articles 100s of times, but I'm always afraid the ideas will dry up..."
Everyone who has ever had to create something from scratch -- be it a 2 page proposal,
to a major work of art, or
a doctoral thesis --
knows how it can all suddenly feel impossible,
like a complete mess...
No matter how many times it's worked out in the past!
How can we get through the big dips?
How can we feel CONFIDENT that no matter how lost we feel,
something truly NEW and UNIQUE to us is going to
come out of it all? (.......in the end 🥱😓😵💫😁)
Wouldn't it be a huge help to be able to TRUST that?
WHEN WE SEE THAT THE CREATIVE UNCONSCIOUS IS LIKE A BEAUTIFUL FERTILE VERDANT BLOSSOMING GARDEN....
we can
🐲 navigate the hard parts of creating
🐲 get access to the abundance of ideas and energy to create...
that lie in waiting for us to realize...

"I have this aching feeling that I want to do something more with my life -- but I have NO IDEA what..."
"As a child, and even as a teenager, I was so creative -- but now my creative side is just wasting away. It's so frustrating..."
So the question is...
How can we even begin to get in touch with our creativity?
How can we get more energy for doing new things? Any kind of new thing...?
These are not just idle questions!
They're at the core of every kind of
emotional problem..and they are also the key to psychological healing
This is why I give these seminars in the first place:
to help people live happier, richer lives
AND
If I've discovered how to do that, wouldn't I be CRAZY
to not do my best to share this?
If these questions resonate with you, I sincerely hope you'll join us for this one hour LIVE webinar

Jung's concept of the ANIMUS can be confusing for us modern women and it's often misunderstood.
I've been invited to give an ISAPZURICH Keynote Lecture next February. The series will be about DREAMS (exciting!!).
This is what I suggested about 'animus' within the context of dreams:
Jung’s concept of the ANIMUS is very confusing, and can also be misunderstood and problematic for modern women. Dreams are essential to find a practical understanding of ‘the animus.’ We will look at
1. how all those variety of male figures in our dreams represent what we arbitrarily call ‘animus’
(BTW, that is the most basic definition that I always use in my analytic work: Jung saw that women DREAM about, and create on the theme of ‘men.’ They must represent a particular function in the psyche. So he gave it a name: animus.)
2. Then show: what are the archetypal processes that those dream figures represent.
3. From there, we can see what the message of the dream is, what it is suggesting for our current daily life, and what it tells us about the deeper transformations that are happening in our unconscious, that we might otherwise not be aware of. ***
*** This is of course, the HUGE value of looking at dreams.
