Cake It Good

Our youngest turned 9 today! And as the child of a cake baker, he doesn’t take his cake requests lightly. This year, he waffles between a Boba Fett helmet and a Mandalorian helmet. He eventually landed on Mando because he thought it would be easier to make since it didn’t have a scope. 🤣 Oh, sweet child. This is the way.

A double birthday celebration means double the cake! Mwende and Mwendwa were so excited to see these at drop off and I hope they enjoyed eating them!

Better late than never! I recent inspired birthday cake.

When you’re celebrating a baby-to-be who’s referred to as “Baby Pizza,” you have double chocolate cake with Italian meringue buttercream and tiny, hand-painted fondant pizzas!

I amazed even myself with this wedding cake! A double barrel white velvet cake with strawberry filling, vanilla Italian meringue buttercream and edible gold leaf. Swoon! 🥰 Many happy years to the happy couple!

Our youngest turned 8 recently and ordered up a “Mario on a cube grabbing some coins” for his cake. My kids are cake spoiled. 🤦‍♀️ Had fun putting this mint chocolate Oreo cake together for him. He approved!

40th birthdays are best with cake and champagne! This one is chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache and covered in Italian meringue buttercream. Bubbles are white chocolate and chocolate.

I’m super behind in sharing photos. This set is from December when my sister, cousin, and I hosted a 40th anniversary dinner for my parents. The cake was intended to be a smaller replication of the original. And mom kept wanting more, so I guess it tasted good!

Dinosaur birthdays are the best. Even better when you’re turning 1 year old and get to smash into a dinosaur egg cake! I really enjoyed making this order. The dino topper turned out so cute I didn’t want to give it away!

Our December celebration was for just one birthday girl who wanted a Ramadan-inspired cake. This one seemed to make her extra happy!

As many of you know, I’ve taken on teaching 4th grade this year and so most of my time has been spent in the classroom. Since the first day of class, the students have been begging me to bring in cake! So each month, we have a birthday celebration. Here is the cake for November which just so happened to coincide with our fractions unit. Since the three birthday girls couldn’t decide on one flavor, I made 1/3 vanilla and 2/3 red velvet. And then I made the students do math before they could eat the cake! 🤣 They now know that each third had to be cut into six slices to make 18 servings for the class. Yummy math!

Our oldest turned 10 (TEN!) last week! How did that happen?! This big birthday meant he got to celebrate with friends and he chose a laser tag/mini golf/gaming party. He also designed his own cake which meant I got to try out my new airbrush tool. Win win!

Had a blast this morning at the Lorton Station Elementary School Fall Festival! Cake It Good donated cakes to be raffled off to four lucky winners throughout the festival. I also have the pleasure of teaching 4th Grade at LSES this year, so it was extra fun to see so many of my students and friends. Here are a few pics from the morning!

Any day is a good day to read Harry Potter, but October seems especially right. So, this Hagrid-style birthday confetti cake with Italian meringue buttercream seems pretty perfect. Happee Birthdae, Hayden!

First birthday fun for a tree-loving tot!

Remember the adorable Hunny Pot smash cake we posted a little while back? Well, I was thrilled to be able to provide the birthday party smash cake and cupcakes for the same little sweetie. This one was a precious Pooh bear smash cake and matching honeybee cupcakes. Too cute!

I am frequently asked which cake flavor is my favorite. I’m not sure I have a singular favorite, but my s’mores cake is definitely high on the list! This lucious chocolate cake boasts dark chocolate ganache, Graham cracker crust, vanilla Italian meringue frosting, and toasted marshmallow topping. It made a great birthday cake this week, but will work for just about any occasion!

Sometimes friends order a cake with a hilariously inappropriate sentiment on top so with some editing magic, you are able to post the photos on Instagram. 🤣 The cake was too pretty not to share though. Gluten free with vanilla Italian meringue buttercream and lemon buttercream filling, the dusty rose ombré was even prettier in person. Thanks to for sharing your recipe!
