People told us finding consensus on pension reform was impossible.
In the last 18 months, we’ve reformed both the municipal and disability pension systems for the first time in decades.
It’s really easy to be cynical and down on politics these days but I still believe government can and should still solve big problems.
And I’m really proud of what we’re getting done.
Great to be with the Capitol Report crew. Tune in this morning at 10:30 on WTNH News 8!
We’re helping small businesses help their employees save for retirement one downtown at a time.
Two things I love: iced tea and a positive message. Shout out to for doing both so well!
Visited Olde Mistick last week to chat with many of the amazing small business owners in the village.
If you don't already have plans for 4th of July weekend, I highly recommend a trip down there!
Extra points if you can name the character in the 4th clip!
Primary care doctors build critical relationships with patients that promote optimal health.
The shortage in PCPs is a healthcare crisis.
As Comptroller, I’m bringing stakeholders together to develop a plan to make CT a leader in primary care delivery.
Burnout and paperwork: Why fewer CT medical students are pursuing primary care roles Officials are trying to address the underlying causes for students not going into the primary care field, despite an increase in medical school enrollment.
For the second time in a month, a Connecticut public servant has lost their life while trying to keep others and our roads safe. Connecticut Department of Transportation employee Andrew DiDomenico’s death at the young age of 26 is a tragic reminder that our state employees put their lives on the line every day to serve our state.
Access to primary care is a problem in Connecticut and the country.
And as the person who runs the largest health plan in the state, I want to help find a solution.
Today we convened a summit to brainstorm ideas on how we can improve care & recruit and retain the doctors we need.
Being a first responder is an incredibly difficult job, physically and emotionally.
In recognition of PTSD month, I joined law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs & corrections officers from across CT in Bristol to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring every CT first responder has access to the mental health care they deserve.
Did you know that the average savings using the ArrayRx discount card is over $200 per prescription?
Great to be in Wethersfield today with State Representative Amy Morrin Bello helping residents sign up.
Visit ArrayRxCard.com to learn more.
All memes and gifs and LFG’s aside, what an inspiring commitment to this team, this school and our state. Thank you, coach.
When you wear the same tie to the same meeting
We’ve got a lot of work left to do, but make no mistake: we’ve made real progress getting Connecticut’s fiscal house in order.
Joined and to announce that Dr. Andy Agwunobi is returning as CEO of .
UConn Health is really important to our state, great things are happening there every day and I’m looking forward to working with Dr. Andy as part of the team focused on building a sustainable game plan for their future.
Joined my friend to visit a few Asian-owned businesses in West Hartford to promote .
CT has a rich AAPI culture that we should be proud of and celebrate this month and every month.
Proud to join Governor Ned Lamont today as he signed our bill creating the Fallen Officer Fund which allows our office to provide immediate support to the family of a Connecticut police officer killed in the line of duty in our state. The men and women of law enforcement risk their lives every day for our community, and this fund ensures we will be there for their loved ones if they tragically pay the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you State Representative Vincent Candelora and State Representative Pat Boyd for working with me to make this law a reality.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing moms across Connecticut who do so much for our families and state every day!
Today is National Nurses Day and this morning I stopped into L&M Hospital in New London with some Dunkin to say thank you to the team before heading to to celebrate the launch of their first-ever nursing program (which we desperately needed as we grapple with a nursing shortage). Thank you, current and future CT nurses!
Take Your Child To Work Day, Team Comptroller edition.
Special thanks to Jonathan for making a special guest appearance!
CT's Youth Service Bureaus are critical to fostering social connectedness that supports and improves kids' educational and life outcomes.
I never pass up an opportunity to talk with our youth about how important their voices are to our state's future.
Spent the morning visiting three great farms in Woodstock with Connecticut Department of Agriculture Bryan Hurlburt talking about MyCTSavings. Connecticut is so lucky to have so many incredible, multi-generational family farms. I learned a lot today and, thanks to them, I should be a popular guy in my house tonight for bringing home fresh milk from Woodstock Creamery at Valleyside Farm and cider donuts from Woodstock Orchards LLC.
As we spotlight financial literacy this month, it's the prime time to enroll your business in MyCTSavings!
Thousands of people across the state have taken the important step of starting to save for retirement, including some of the businesses I visited today in Madison!
I knew my alma mater, Guilford High School, would come through with a win for Team Comptroller. (Sorry Treasurer Erick Russell!)
Whether you’re a student just starting your financial journey or someone looking to improve your money management skills, there’s always something new to learn.
Land of steady habits.
BASKETBALL CAPITOL OF THE 🌎
Last year, the legislature asked our office to run the Hartford Flood Compensation Program.
We launched ahead of schedule and have helped over 300 homes, businesses, and nonprofits with damage claims.
It's helping, but what we really need is to fix the cause of the flooding.
Last week, I joined Senator Richard Blumenthal and Senator Chris Murphy to announce $4.5 million in funding Congress has allocated for flood control.
Proud to play a role in helping people with damage from increasingly powerful storms while the underlying infrastructure is improved.
Let’s go UConn Women's Basketball!
Bringing this back because April is , and you can always find resources to complete the C-T Financial Literacy Checklist at osc.ct.gov/finlit.
Excited to be visiting some high schools this month with Treasurer Erick Russell to test students' FinLit knowledge!
As Comptroller, I am committed to bringing people together not just to solve problems, but also to convince people that government can still solve problems.
Because we can. And we are.
Today, I announced a series of reforms that will strengthen our disability pension program for those who truly need it and give our office the tools we need to detect, investigate, and eliminate potential abuse within the system.
Overall, the system is working, and disabled former state employees receive the pensions they need and deserve.
But a complex series of rules and rulings must be changed in order for it to work better.
Despite administering the plan, I don’t have the direct authority to change this on my own.
So, like my predecessors have, I’m calling on those that do to work with me to enact these reforms.
Together, we can fix this important system.
Now is the time.
