We have an UPDATE! From BSR Alum Crockett..

"Dear BSR Friends,

I have to say that life with my new family is one big adventure. I'm late in writing because I just experienced my first hurricane and it was hair raising! My family told me not to worry because the hurricane would not hit Galveston but at the last minute it turned and we got a direct hit. I didn't know that the wind could blow that hard and that the house would shake. Fortunately, I was sleeping between my mom and dad so I was fine. We lost electricity and it got very hot. So hot, that mom and dad drove me around in the car to cool off. Fortunately, a kind neighbor who is also a dog lover invited us to stay at her house. She had electricity and lots of dog treats! I'm back home now and life is getting back to normal.

Over the last year, I have worked on my social skills. Now, I am very friendly with other dogs and enjoy play time when I'm at my vacation home, Bone Voyage. Mom brought home a BSR foster last year. I like being an only child. I'm eleven years old now.

Attached are a few photos from the last year. I'm good at guarding the yard from squirrels, love playing in the water at the beach but I'm still afraid of the golf cart. Thank you for finding me this wonderful home!"

Maizie is doing a little "Porch Sittin" in her new home and looks pretty happy about it!

We have an update!

"Words are hard to adequately explain how lucky we are to have adopted Hope in 2016. She has shown us what a transformation can come about when one is loved, nourished, and protected. You might think I am talking about what we have done for her, but it is exactly the opposite. She has loved us completely, nourished our souls with her contentment to just be, and protected us from dangers seen (squirrels) and unseen (ghosts?).
We are forever grateful to Debi Jaquith Odom of GA, who saved Hope from an awful situations and nurtured her through heartworm treatments and hip surgery. To Debi and the BSR family, Thank you for believing in the power of HOPE. She is perfectly named."

Hardee has BIG reasons to smile! He found himself an amazing life and we are SO thrilled for him!

WE HAVE AN UPDATE~

"Dear BSR: Thank you for your note remembering my 1 year anniversary with my new family later this month. It’s been almost a year and I think they are coming along pretty well with their training. As you can see in the photos, here I am ringing the bell which means they are to give me a treat. I want to tell you it was a struggle and they did not immediately catch on but now seem to be pretty consistent but they seem to ignore me if I ring it more than 10 times.

I am also searching the web for family members who may have not been as lucky as I have been in finding a forever home. Here I am on the BSR website looking at the Seniors for Seniors website.

Last of all I purchased a limo with chauffer Pat who is very happy to take me on a ride around the community so I can visit my friends. As I am getting up there in years, I do not like to walk as much as I did when I was younger and hiring a chauffer driven limo is always a good day.

Well that’s all for now thank you for helping Pat and Bob to find me and I will keep you up to date on how they are doing with their training. There is still hope for them.

We have had 4 obstruction cases in 2024. Three (3) dogs required emergency surgery, the fourth needed medical intervention. These cases are expensive, especially when it happens over a weekend or holiday.

We have had 3 separate litters in 2024 with parvovirus. These are Rosie's pups.

Assisting another rescue with a mass intake, BSR took in 5, 3-1/2-year-month old puppies that were quickly diagnosied with parvo. BSR volunteers rushed the pups to an emergency clinic and unfortunately one pup passed during the transport. 2 of the remaining 4 pups were treated and released after an overnight stay and receiving parvo treatment. The other 2 pups needed several more days of critical ER care to recover and be discharged. Currently, the pups are thriving and keeping their fosters amused with their puppy curiosity and antics.

Please help if you can. We have raised $66k towards our goal of $150,000. Be their change, and help us continue the care for the most vulnerable.

Jimbo, Jethro, and Junior along with their momma, Sweetie, were pulled from a small, rural shelter in the South. BSR was contacted to pull Sweetie and 4 of her 5-week-old pups from the shelter. However, the morning BSR was to pick up Sweetie and the pups, we got a call from the shelter that one pup had died overnight, and Sweetie and the other 3 pups were experiencing diarrhea. Upon intake Sweetie and the pups were immediately taken to a vet and parvo tests were run. Sweetie was parvo negative, but all 3 pups were parvo positive and had to be taken to an emergency hospital to receive critical care. One pup responded immediately to the care. One pup required a blood transfusion and one pup required monoclonal antibodies in addition to the regular parvo treatment protocol. Today, Sweetie and the pups are all thriving, and the pups will soon be ready to go to their foster-to-adopt families (all are spoken for).
