2024 Pride Month: Promoting LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity in Tech | Octahedroid 05/07/2024

Pride Month ended last week, but our efforts shouldn’t stop there. We need to keep supporting vulnerable groups and individuals.

Throughout June, we shared content, created infographics, and held virtual talks for our team to make this possible.

2024 Pride Month: Promoting LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity in Tech | Octahedroid Learn about Octahedroid’s Pride Month initiatives, exploring LGBTQIA+ representation in tech, the importance of DE&I programs, and our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace through education and awareness.

Discrimination often stems from ignorance. What better way to combat it and support diverse individuals than through education?

This week, we hosted a virtual conference for our entire team, featuring Tay Almada–activist, educator, and translator. Tay enlightened us on various diversities and dissidences, helping us grasp different concepts around the LGBTQIA+ community, identities, and the critical need to continue discussing these topics.

By doing so, we aim to curb the psychological and physical violence that individuals face daily simply for being themselves.

We gained invaluable insights and are grateful for the opportunity to use this knowledge to address these issues and understand their profound impact on people's lives.

In celebration of Pride Month, here are 5 must-watch LGBTQ+ films and documentaries with a connection to the tech world ⬇️

➡️ The Imitation Game (2014)
A biographical drama about Alan Turing, a pioneering computer scientist and mathematician whose work was instrumental in breaking the N**i Enigma code during World War II. The film also explores Turing's experiences as a gay man in a time when homosexuality was criminalized.

➡️ Q***r Silicon Valley (2012)
This documentary provides a comprehensive look into the history and activism of the LGBTQ+ community in Silicon Valley, from the 1970s to now. It showcases 22 history-making activists as they recount the struggles and discrimination they endured to ultimately build a local society that was accepting and inclusive.

➡️ TransGeek (2018)
A documentary that explores the intersection of gender identity and the geek community, featuring transgender individuals in tech, gaming, and science fiction fandoms.

➡️ Codebreaker (2011)
A documentary that delves into the life and legacy of Alan Turing, highlighting both his contributions to the field of computing and his struggles as a gay man in the 20th century.

Structuring content in Headless Drupal often feels like a tightrope walk.

Balancing developer/site builder needs with content editor/marketing workflows is no simple task.

At yesterday, our CEO, Jesus Manuel Olivas introduced Drupal as a Composable CMS, a system that emphasizes modularity, reusability, content variety, and robust governance to address this issue.

This system makes streamlining content workflows easier without compromising the developer experience.

The solution includes three modules:

• Composable Module: Divides content from its presentation to enhance adaptability.

• Decoupled Preview Iframe: Enables real-time content previews as they will appear on the frontend.

• Visual Editor: Integrates directly with content for a sleek, off-canvas editing experience.

While working with and fetching content from using at some point, you will probably want to check how your content looks like, even if that content is not published yet.

Using this technique, you will be able to fetch Published nodes on production and Draft + Published nodes while running on development mode.

The objective of fetching only published content on production is to hide those nodes while executing the build process and avoid deploying unpublished site-content.

You can read this post for the guide and steps to achieve this task.
