Renewed Hope: A journey to restore faith and futures.
Our story is very similar to those of others called to help. I saw a problem in my community and decided to be a part of the solution. I noticed that there were a ton of resources to provide social services and housing to the homeless. However, being a felon automatically disqualifies a person from most if not all of those subsidies, set -asides, and programs. With no resources; a person is basically condemned to a life of homelessness and financial insecurity. We are here to disrupt those cycles and renew hope.
Most of the felonies committed by the homeless are crimes that stem from their circumstances such as theft, assault, drug charges, and trespassing. When it came time to design the services we wanted to tackle the three main circumstances that created this cycle to begin with. First, we address homelessness by providing transitional housing opportunities. Now there are strings attached such as commitment to sobriety, life skill training, and maintaining sobriety. This is all while the house supports them mentally and spiritually to stay the path. Without support, people tend to have crisis moments in which they can easily lapse back into homelessness. We match everyone with support groups and professionals that allows them to retain their newfound hope. Lastly, homelessness creates a false lack of future. When you feel as though your situation is on repeat it is easy to let your circumstances control you. Our commitment to providing a safe and bright future lies in our kick start programs. We help with career readiness, GED resources, even clothes, and hygiene items for the best first impression.
With a strong foundation laid, the hard part still lies ahead. This pandemic Covid-19 has delayed our full opening and fundraising efforts. However, that does not stop us from being a voice to the people and providing resources. We cannot do this alone. Renewed Hope is calling upon the community to rally around the vulnerable in our society. Know of some shelters, food, and resources? Send them to us, we are keeping a master list and sharing on our website in hopes that we can get the word out as things become available. Donations are much appreciated, whether it's money, time, talent, or providing information we truly value it all. As a nation, we will get through it all together.
