Note I said relevant. If your comment is relevant, we can all benefit by working toward a resolution of the issue. If it is not relevant to the study of the Bible passage in question, it will be removed.

Hi Family & Friends!

For those of you who wish to join in our study of the Bible, here is a first post that lays out the study methodology and the approach. We will be studying Romans (yes, I know, a tough book) first. We are using the questions from the Group Discussion Guides developed by Robert K. Oglesby back in the '70s and '80s. So, the idea is to read the questions THEN read the bible passage THEN revisit the questions to see if you can answer them....

Henry Paulson was interviewed on the radio this past Thursday about the drastic economic slowdown that's been caused by the virus pandemic. During the 2008 financial crisis, "Hank" Paulson was treasury secretary and oversaw the $700 billion recovery program.

His basic message was that we've been through crises before, including pandemics, and we'll get through this one. He said that there are very competent people, such as Steve Mnuchin, that are all over the issues. These experts have the ear of all key decision makers in both the Legislative and Executive branch.

HOWEVER, he said there was one big problem we must overcome to get through this: fear. He related that at the onset of the most severe guidelines, such as the stay-at-home orders, he was talking with his wife, Wendy. He was very concerned, even fearful, about where we were headed. She reminded him of the words of Paul to his son of the faith, Timothy, in 2 Tim 1:7:

"For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline."

After her admonition, he said, "That was all I needed to get going."

Indeed, that is all we need to get going--and keep going.

Long ago when I did shift work, I would get home in the wee hours of the night. If I couldn't sleep right away, I'd prop myself up on the hood of my car and look at the sky. Out in the country, the Milky Way and all the stars would looks like clouds. Every time I read the 8th Psalm, I'd like to think I can think and feel what David thought:

"O Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have [a]displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
2 From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established [b]strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

3 When I [c]consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have [d]ordained;
4 What is man that You [e]take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
5 Yet You have made him a little lower than [f]God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
6 You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen,
And also the [g]beasts of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
