Had an awesome time this morning on the Lynn Common, team joined the during their clean up! With awarded funds from ARPA, we were able to plant native New England plants around the band stand in preparation for farmer markets new summer location.
More to come….. hint 🚲
We had a wonderful time today beautifying the area around the Lynn Common Frederick Douglass Memorial Bandstand. Old, dead rose bushes and probably about 100 lbs worth of invasive bittersweet dug out of the flower beds, and replaced with more than 95% native plants to support local pollinators and cope with our changing climate. Our planting project was funded by Lynn ARPA funds, so special thanks to all the City Leadership and ARPA committee for their support. We also couldn't have done this without the guidance and help from Lynn Department of Public Works.
Lynn resident and director of programming at the Gloucester Writers Center, Erick Parkinson , will be hosting a poetry reading and celebration of a literary figure from Lynn (the poet Vincent Ferrini) and Lynn's literary present and future at the Lynn Public Library on June 18th at 5:30PM.
This event is free and open to the public (no-registration required)!
Lynn will be holding the second public workshop for the Downtown Parking Strategy on Wednesday, June 12th at the Lynn Museum starting at 6:30 p.m. The project team will provide an overview of draft recommendations inspired by the feedback provided at our first workshop and through our online survey. The meeting will feature a brief presentation by the project team, followed by time for attendees to review recommendations in detail and provide comments.
They will also be hosting a day-time pop-up event on Tuesday, June 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.. The project team will be at the Demakes Family YMCA to provide updates on its recommendations and allow for discussion in a more informal setting.

Despite the unique challenges faced by women in business, we persist and excel, balancing multiple roles. Women-owned businesses continue to be a vital force in the economy, comprising about 40% of all businesses, and generating $2.7 trillion in revenue. Between 2019 and 2023, the revenue of women-owned businesses grew 82.0% faster than male-owned businesses. In the past two decades, the number of female entrepreneurs has surged by 114%. Black & Latina entrepreneurs have shown exceptional drive, compromising over 60% of new women-owned businesses. Here’s how women-owned businesses in Lynn continue to persevere, regardless of what’s thrown at them.
Although Women’s History Month has passed, let’s remember to continue supporting these amazing women and their businesses. Take the time to visit these establishments, along with many others not featured in this video. Let them know they have your support. By doing so, we not only empower these women, but also inspire the next generation of female entrepreneurs in Lynn.

Lynn Main Streets: an Urban Main Projects
Lynn Main Streets: an Urban Main Projects was spearheaded in 2019 by a small group of downtown businesses, property owners, and city officials who saw a need to change the narrative of the downtown district of Lynn, MA. Their vision to restore economic vitality and promote quality of life, through community-driven economic development and inclusive revitalization, has led them to research possible pathways and solutions that would celebrate Lynn’s diversity and cultural strengths through engaging, place-specific initiatives. With these criteria in mind, the pursuit of the national Main Streets model began.
Our primary goals are to make downtown a welcoming regional center for arts and culture, the location of choice for retail, creative businesses, economic activity and community engagement, and to pursue revitalization through partnerships and community involvement.
