🌟 Meet Dawn, an Illuminus volunteer who shines! 🌟

Dawn was born and raised in the Watertown area and chose to get involved with volunteering at The Marquardt because her mom lives on campus and wanted to help her get better acclimated.

She runs Bingo and countless other games at The Marquardt, on average, 3-4 times a week, with the help of her husband, Earl. What started as an effort to pay it forward turned into a ton of friendships and memories that have become more than she ever thought possible.

When asked about her favorite part about volunteering, Dawn answered, "I love getting to know them and building relationships that allow them to be vulnerable when they need it. I was a school teacher for 30 years, so I love to be a helping hand to whoever needs me. The stories they share and the way they make me laugh is irreplaceable. These residents are like my family.

"I want to make sure to pay it forward because I hope someday that someone will want to do the same for me. It's a blessing."

Dawn, we want to take a moment to thank you for everything you do for our community. Your invaluable contributions and positive energy truly uplift everyone. We're incredibly fortunate to have you as a volunteer!

⭐ Meet Marlys, an Illuminus volunteer who shines! ⭐

Marlys has lived on The Marquardt campus for seven years and graciously volunteered in her community in numerous roles for six of them.

During that time, she's helped out by doing office work, serving meals, helping with mail, being a voice on campus counsel, and visiting other residents to provide companionship and build new relationships.

When asked about her favorite part about volunteering, Marlys answered, "I just like to live my life glass half full and put more positivity in the world. I also like keeping busy and helping other people. I don't do this for the recognition; I just do it because I care.

"More than anything, I just want to see other people be positive, spread kindness, and help each other as much as they can."

Marlys, we're immensely grateful for everything you bring to our community. Your dedication and positivity truly make a difference in the lives of everyone here. Thank you deeply for your invaluable contributions as a volunteer!

I have worked in health care facilities in the past, and currently am a traveling case manager to a number of similar places in the community. Cathy worked at St. Anne's for 6.5 years before retiring in 2019. Now, she volunteers as a Life Enrichment Assistant! Not only does she help organize card games and cognitive games, but she also leads the resident Glee Club on campus. She loves to sing and help others share their love for singing and music. As she put it: "It's just fun for me to be here." Thank you for your amazing work, Cathy!
