John, the founder and president of the Hinson Financial Group, has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial markets with major Wall Street firms, both as a financial advisor and branch manager. He has a genuine passion for financial advising, taking great care in developing individualized financial, retirement and estate plans for clients and helping small business owners and professionals manage their retirement plans.
In 2004 he started an independent branch office with Raymond James Financial Services, where he is a registered principal and branch manager. Prior to that, he was a vice president at Prudential Securities from 2000 to 2004 and a vice president at PaineWebber from 1990 to 2000. In the mid-1980s he worked in New York City for PaineWebber as a vice president of marketing, collaborating with the firm’s equity research analysts and acting as their liaison to the financial advisors in the field. He also served as a member of PaineWebber’s Focus List Committee for four years. The purpose of the committee was to highlight timely stock ideas from PaineWebber’s research analysts to financial advisors across the country. In the late 1980s, John took a two-year hiatus from the financial services industry to form and run a start-up venture, a valuable experience that augments his financial advising.
John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance from California State University, Fullerton. As a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, he adheres to the highest ethics and commitments to professionalism and continuing education. He holds a certificate in financial planning from Kaplan University; Series 7, 8, 63, 65, securities licenses; and insurance licenses in life-only, accident and health, and variable contracts.
John has been a member of Roosters of Orange County since 2003. He was on the board of directors for five years and President 2014. Roosters is a men's social organization that also has a foundation supporting underprivileged and at risk youth in Orange County, CA. Between direct grants to local charities and its annual Holiday Food Drive, Roosters Foundation has donated over $1 million over the past decade to the Orange County community. John is also a Board Member, Officer and Director - Finance & Pension Advisory Committee for the City of Costa Mesa, CA.
