Sometimes you come across something that triggers some of the best memories.

My first weekend job was in the Culloden , washing dishes. I was 13 and was paid 30p an hour. It was this wage that enabled me to buy my daddy his Irish linen handkerchiefs from Reid's of Holywood. A sorely missed institution.

I worked my way up and started training as a pastry chef, but left due to the meagre pay and long hours. In those days catering did not pay. But boy, did I have some of the best fun working there. The head chef then, Terry Woods was the funniest man when when angry. I can still see his face! Even now I still laugh at the vision of him.

So, I was absolutely delighted to have found these napkins recently and they brought back lots of memories.

Sold as a pair. I will be keeping one pair and selling another.

Two years ago I visited Carrickmacross lace museum on our central Ireland trip.
I was blown away with the stunning work they had on display. The ladies were super friendly and very knowledgeable. It was fascinating to see the ladies at work.

So I was delighted to have found this stunning Carrickmacross lace yoke recently.

Finding original antique handwoven Irish linen, is becoming increasingly difficult. Finding it unused in the original packaging, well...

Honestly, this is like silk running through your hands as it has been beetled to perfection.. To authenticate how it was manufactured, it is woven into the hems "Irish hand woven linen damask"

I wonder if the person who made it is looking down, saying "I made that" ?

You really have to feel it, to believe it.

This is one truly special piece.

Made up of 4 different antique linen handkerchiefs, all held together with a handmade bobbin lace.
Each handkerchief is different and features little insects.

These beautiful bobbin lace doilies have been made using linen thread. I assume it's French linen thread, rather than Irish. Either way, they're a darling set.
