Kayla & Lucas’ Sentimental Soiree

The day was filled with high energy, the hustle and bustle of downtown, and all the happy tears. From the God-centered ceremony to a romantic reception at the historic Hotel Kansas City, Kayla and Lucas were showered with love and excitement all day.

Our favorite parts of the day:
- The father of the bride spinning his daughter over and over in their dance together to “Butterfly Kisses.” There was not a dry eye in that place 🥹
- A friendly little KU vs. Mizzou rivalry (for the record... M-I-Z!)
- Lucas’s first look when his bride walked down the aisle. She was breathtaking.

We often describe our go-to wedding aesthetic as “timeless.” We’re always looking for ways to bring an air of elegance that will feel still feel relevant and fresh when our couples look at wedding pictures after years have gone by. There’s a reason elegance never goes out of style!

Holy moly 🥹 I continue to be amazed by the support and friendship of our wedding industry!! Real talk…

I consider myself a recovering perfectionist. Not the kind of perfectionist that sounds good in a job interview, or the kind that you’d expect in a wedding planner. But the kind that used to inhibit me from trying new things or growing my business out of fear. It caused anxiety and imposter syndrome.

I’ve spent the past 3 years learning how to make my perfectionism work *for* me rather than against me, and through the power planning method, self discovery, and a lot of grace, I am SO much more confident and efficient.

But I’m still my toughest critic by far. So it means SO MUCH to me to be recognized by my peers who see how I show up on wedding day and nominate me for such high honors. Thank you so, so, so much 🫶🏻

Whew, I think it’s time to reintroduce myself as a mama of two! 👋🏻 I’m Erica, owner + lead planner here at EJW, and these are my favorite people! My babes are Leighton and baby Ashton, and that’s my husband, Zach. Since we’re in the biz of uniting couples, I asked him to introduce me to you! Here’s what he had to say:

Simple isn't "plain" when it's intentional. Often couples tell us they want to add a pop of color because they're worried their decor will look too plain.

We promise, you don't need color for breathtaking decor. To pull off a delicate look, be intentional with other design aspects, like floral placement. Designating specific tables to get elevated floral vs. low compote arrangements can definitely make a statement.
