Brandt Dick
Brandt Dick for Superintendent of ND Public Instruction
November 4, 2020
Thank you for all the support and votes. It was humbling to see how God took approximately 36,000 votes in the primary and they became close to 130,000 votes in the general election. I am very thankful to have carried the 5 counties where I have served during my career. Thank you to all who voted for me!

“ND Friends and Family....please support Brandt Dick for State Superintendent! I’ve had the pleasure of working with Brandt when I served as McClusky’s Superintendent. He is a well educated, kind hearted, and dedicated educator that is truly invested in our ND students.
Good Luck my friend! 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼”

Here is another difference between myself and my opponent. I asked my college algebra class today if I should continue teaching the class if I get elected. My students responded with an overwhelming yes. I would be very interested in continuing to teach. This would make me one of a few if not the only state superintendent to continue to teach HS students.
It is time to elect someone who still has the passion and desire to teach students. Brandt Dick for State Superintendent.

Someone said this race was shaping up as the choice between an educator and a politician. Who do the voters think should lead the ND Department of Public Instruction?

With two weeks to go until election night, I want to encourage all to vote. Here are the up to date total of ballots that have been cast already in this election.
Total Ballots Cast prior to Election Day 107,762
Here is some information about State Superintendents from BallotPedia Superintendent of Schools.
"HIGHLIGHTS
The position of state superintendent exists in all 50 states; it is elected in 13 and appointed in the remaining 37.
Of those states where the superintendent is appointed, power of appointment is given to the state Board of Education in 18, to the governor in 17, and to the state Board of Regents in two."
It appears that in ND we have a choice, are we going to allow ND to be state number 18, influenced by the Governor's money, or will the people decide that it is time for a change in ND. Something to think about.

Many of you have received fliers in the mail from my opponent. It is interesting to me the number of times she references not raising property taxes. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am not aware of a State Superintendent ever levying taxes. That is done by local school districts and local school boards.
It seems like she found some polling or something that lowering taxes was a popular statement for gaining votes, never mind that it does not fit the position. The ND State Legislators are the ones who set tax rates, not the State Superintendent. One of my friends said it seems like she thinks she is running for State Tax Commissioner. (So much could be said for the history of the individuals running these departments, but I will leave it unsaid.)
Vote for someone who understands school finances, local control, and that only local school districts have the authority to raise and lower taxes. Vote for Brandt Dick for State Superintendent.

Today I want to point out another difference between my opponent and myself. To do this, I will share dates and information from four different boards that the State Superintendent serves. I would place attendance of board meetings as a priority if I was elected.
This from the Career and Technical Education Board. Jan. 4, 2018 was when this board was in the midst of discussions on hiring of a new State Director of CTE. The next two meetings, Jan. 16, 2018, and Jan. 24, 2018, my opponent was absent. Feb. 20, 2018, my opponent is recorded in the minutes as leaving the meeting early. She missed the Feb. 26, 2018 meeting. March 8, 2018 was the date for interviewing the two finalists. The meeting started at 7:45 am, and my opponent came in at 2:10 pm after the interviews. She then proceeded to vote on the candidates even though she was not present at the interviews for this very important position. Not a good example of leadership. (All this information is taken from the recorded minutes)
In 2019, my opponent missed 2 land board meetings, and was present at three additional board meetings via phone. (Source: Land Board Minutes)
For the Calendar Year 2019, my opponent was in attendance at 2 out of 5 ND High School Activities Association Board Meetings. (Source: NDHSAA board minutes)
The final board I wish to mention is the ND Teachers Fund for Retirement Board. For the Calendar year of 2019, my opponent was present at 2 out of 7 board meetings. (Source: NDTFRR board minutes)
It is time ND elects a leader who understands the importance of these boards. How would any school deal with a student who had this type of attendance record? ND deserves better leadership and representation. Elect Brandt J. Dick for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

I am a strong proponent of the 1000's of jobs that the coal, oil and natural gas industries bring to North Dakota. The revenue they generate is what helps fund the Common School Trust Fund as well as the Foundation Aid Stabilization Fund. These industries are so important to ND Education and to the ND economy.
September 21, 2020. Congratulations to Kristi Reinke, the 2021 ND Teacher of the Year. This year more than ever, our teachers are going above and beyond dealing with all the challenges COVID-19 is presenting. Thank a teacher today!

Thank you Arvin, my father-in-law, for coming along as today was a SW swing to New Salem, Dickinson, Belfield, Hettinger, Mott, Elgin, and Flasher. It was a fun day, I feel a little momentum and feel this election could surprise some people. People are ready for a change and someone who has been in the trenches with the experience necessary to lead. Vote for Brandt J Dick.
