We got ahold of some overstock, and because we saved, you save! However, supplies are extremely limited, so if you want to jump on board with this deal, its important that you book now. We mainly have supplies for a lot of 5W-20 and 0W-20 oil changes, we did not get a lot of 5W-30 as there was not a lot to get, but we have some.

This deal will automatically apply when you book a qualifying oil change that we have the supplies for. You can book your oil change by messaging our page (generally a slower response), or by calling or texting us at (360) 685-7444 (generally a faster response, but please leave a message if we don't pick up your call!)

17/01/2024

Due to inclement weather, Standfill's Mobile Auto Repair will be closed today for all non emergency repairs.

Our phone lines are still open so if you need to schedule an appointment we are still able to do that.

If you are in need of a jump start, or a lockout, we may still be able to get to you. Weather and road conditions will be a deciding factor in servicing any customers with emergency issues.

Stay warm and stay safe!

At the start of every safe stop, you'll find your brakes. Let's talk about them!

Your cars brakes are one of the most, if not the most important systems that your vehicle is equipped with. From helping you maintain safe following distances, to preventing accidents before they have a chance to happen, and with modern technology, like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), can even help in preventing a collision when subjected to extreme weather conditions. Systems like FCA (Forward Collision Avoidance), which can automatically engage the brakes for you in the event that you are not able to react fast enough, can only work properly, if your brakes work properly. Understanding the signs and symptoms of underperforming, or even failing brakes, can make the difference between a close call, and an insurance call. Lets take a look at the signs and symptoms to look (and listen) for. Brake systems also rely on brake fluid, which works as hydraulic fluid, creating hydraulic pressure when you step on the brake pedal, which can apply the adequate amount of force to stop your vehicle, without you needing to push extremely hard.

1. Squeaking, Squealing, or Grinding Brakes
One of the most obvious ways to tell that there may be something wrong with your braking system, is if you are hearing squeaking, squealing, or grinding noises from your wheel areas when driving, these noises typically are heard during braking, but severe issues with your brakes could lead to these noises during normal driving, even when you are not using your brakes. These noises can be caused by squealing tabs (sometimes referred to as anti rattle clips, but in reality, the tabs are just a part of the entire rattle clip), that are designed to contact the brake rotor and cause that noise when your brakes are down to a dangerously low level, warning you that is is time to get them services, as soon as possible. When your brakes have worn down far enough, and the friction material has worn off of the brake pad, you may hear these noises due to metal rubbing against metal. Over time, this rubbing can lead to damage to your brake rotors, which can make the job of servicing your brakes even more costly.

2. Vibration When Braking
If your car is shaking, or vibrating when you press the brake pedal, its possible that your brakes have worn down near the end of their useful life. In some cases, brakes may wear unevenly, or brake rotors may warp. Uneven brake wear, or brake rotor warping can happen for a number of reasons, from a faulty or stuck brake caliper, to your brakes overheating from excessive use, or other factors, and stressing the metal, causing it to deform.

3. Increased Stopping Distances
Usually, before your brakes start making noise, or vibrating, you may notice that your car is not stopping like it used to. This is a sure sign of an issue with your braking system. Excessive stopping distances can be caused by worn down brake pads, but can also be caused by low brake fluid levels, which can be a sign of a brake fluid leak.

4. Brake Pad Indicator Light Is On
More and more modern cars are coming with brake pad wear sensors, which eliminate the harsh squealing that most of us are used to with bad brakes, and replaces it with a dash light, warning you of an issue with your brake system (this light will typically be your ABS light, and can sometimes be your Brake warning light). These sensors are designed to break, or complete a circuit by contacting the spinning brake rotor, and therefore by design, are not reusable items, and should be replaced with every brake pad change, even if they do not appear broken, as they may no longer be operational.

5. Spongey or Soft Brake Pedal
For those of you that have driven a manual transmission in your life, you know that clutch pedals can be rather stiff. A brake pedal should be somewhere between the stiffness of a clutch, and the accelerator (or gas) pedal. If the pedal pedal feels spongey, or soft, or even fails to return to its resting position in a timely manner, this can be a sign of low brake fluid, or of excessive brake pad wear in some cases.

These are five ways to tell if your brakes are coming due for service. While most brakes are pretty easy to do yourself, in your own driveway, with basic hand tools, not everyone has the tools, time, or desire, to work on their own vehicle, or even take the vehicle to a shop, which can sometimes take hours. This is why Standfill's Mobile Auto Repair is dedicated to convenience, and WE come to YOU.

If you think your brakes might need service, or if you have any other problems with your vehicle, be sure to give us a call, leave us a text, or, send us a message here on Facebook. Set up your multi-point inspection (which covers checking the brakes, and brake fluid), and be rest assured that you, and your passengers, will be safe on the road. In this world of Go, Go, Go, make sure you take time to appreciate the ability to Stop.

Lesson Time! (Gonna try to be more active on my business page, but I'm terrible at remembering to post here so please forgive me!)

Let's talk about the automotive phrase "Turn Over".

Turning Over is a phrase usually used when a customer or mechanic is working through or diagnosing what we call a no start condition. A no start condition is simply just that, a condition with a presently unknown cause that prevents the vehicle from starting.

"Starting" and "Turning Over" are two very different things, and using the proper term or phrase can help a mechanic to understand exactly what may be going wrong with your vehicle, even before the mechanic has a chance to inspect the vehicle themselves.

When you turn the key (or push the engine start button) of your vehicle in an attempt to start the engine, a lot of things happen all at once, but to keep it simple we will just discuss the major ones. One thing that happens is that your vehicles fuel pump will prime itself, the fuel pump typically primes itself one key position before the actual starting position, or in the case of a push button starter, it primes at the same time. Priming, in this case, means that it is pumping fuel into the fuel line from the gas tank and to the engine, in preparation to start the engine. If you listen carefully, and turn the key to the run position (one click before the spring loaded final position), or, in the case of a push button starter, push the button twice with your foot off the brake, you can sometimes hear your fuel pump hum or whine as it pumps fuel up, raising fuel pressure, so the engine will have fuel to burn. (Hint: If your car isn't starting, and you don't hear that hum or whine, you could have a blown fuel pump fuse, or your fuel pump could be broken. Be sure to get in touch if you need help diagnosing or fixing your car!). As the fuel pump primes, when your key engages its final position, known as the Start position, you will send power from your battery to your starter motor. The starter motor is mounted in your vehicle in such a way that when it receives power, it pushes a gear outward, which meshes with what is called a flywheel, spinning the flywheel hard and fast to essentially kick start the engine. This is the same concept as kick starting a motorcycle, or crank starting an old car, or, manually spinning the propeller of an airplane so the engine starts, except cars are capable of doing it electronically now, with the starter motor. After you let go of the key (usually because the engine has started), the gear moves back out of the way so the flywheel can spin freely under the power of the now running engine. If you hear clicking, or nothing at all, and the engine is not running after your key reaches the last position, or you press the start button, it may be time to give us a call.

At this point, the vehicle is "Turning over", so long as its not clicking or making no sound. On a car that is starting like it should, you should almost never hear it turn over, because the engine will start up so quickly, but on older cars, cars in extreme cold, cars with low battery, or cas with other starting related issues, you might here almost a cyclic and repetitive chugging type sound that only stops when you let go of your key (or after a few seconds in the case of push button start). That noise is called turning over. The engine is rotating (turning over), but has not started.

So what does it mean when a vehicle has started then? Well, for a vehicle to be considered having been started, or "running", the engine must continue to "turn over" under its own power, without the help of the starter.

If you can let go of your key, or let off of your starter button, your car is running, and has successfully started. If its just chugging repeatedly, its turning over, if its clicking its clicking, and if its doing nothing, its doing nothing. This information helps us get a better idea of what kind of diagnosis might be necessary, before we even see the car. So remember this information if you ever need to call us, or another mechanic, in the future.

Hopefully you enjoyed this little educational post, if you did, please leave a like a share to help even more people!
