This is my end-of-the-day post, my “Midnight Report”, where I normally reflect on my workday accomplishments. However, being the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, I wanted to do my part to help remember the heroes of June 6th, 1944. So I’m sharing this post from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band, who were in Normandy, France today to mark the occasion. Thank you, D-Day veterans.

Caught the Quiet Riot concert last night (9/1/23) at the Lancaster Fair in Lancaster, NH! Saw them once before about 20 years ago as well. I grew up with these classics, and they sounded just as good as I remember them. Any students want to work on some Rudy Sarzo bass lines at your upcoming bass lessons? 😉

The "New Hampshire Chapter" of Knoxville Bass Lessons (a.k.a. my Knoxville Academy of Music online bass students from NH) - Eliza, Liam, and I - had an unofficial field trip to see the Bass Extremes concert featuring Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, and Derico Watson at the Flying Monkey in Plymouth, NH on Friday night (9/2/22). Derico was even cool enough to give Liam a little impromptu rhythm lesson after the concert - SO COOL! A night to remember, for sure!

LESSON SNIPPET: “Modes Au Monde”. In this lesson, bass instructor Ryan Byrne plays the familiar melody, “Joy To The World”, in it’s original Ionian mode (major key), then plays it in Mixolydian, Dorian, and Aeolian (natural minor) modes to demonstrate the difference in the sound of the modes, pointing out their respective altered notes. Enjoy!

This 10 measure section (14 measures with repeats) changes time signatures 10 times from 5/8 to 3/4 to 5/4 to 3/4 to 11/8 to 5/8 to 3/4 to 5/4 to 5/8 to 6/4 to 3/4.
