1. ๐’๐œ๐ก๐ž๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ. If you donโ€™t then it probably wonโ€™t happen. That is a no-no. Prioritize it like you do with other important things in your life. Hey, 5 minutes is better than 0 minutes!

2. ๐ƒ๐จ ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ง๐ž๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ. Do something in the moment that is fun, which will give your brain a nice boost of good-feeling chemicals. Go for a road trip, try a new hiking path, get dressed up and go out on a date, or watch something funny. You get the point. The possibilities are endless.

3. ๐๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐ข๐ญ ๐จ๐ง ๐š ๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ซ ๐›๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ. Self-care is needed on a daily basis. I understand that it can feel challenging to find the time, but if you keep thinking that way then you are more likely to NOT do it. Surely, you can find 5-10 minutes a day to do some deep breathing, stretches, or watch a funny video. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Remember- just because it feels like there is no time, doesnโ€™t mean thatโ€™s true. Reframe or change your thinking about time constraints.

4. ๐“๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ก๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐š๐ง ๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐ง ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐. Try something out of your norm, something new. Try a new hobby or art. Take dance classes. Can you say Zumba?! Use the creative side of your brain. Make a list of things to try.

๐Ÿฆ‹ I started my private practice- Nurturing Hearts Therapeutic Services, LLC in 2019 and itโ€™s been quite the journey- full of twists and turns.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I feel so fortunate to have worked with so many courageous and resilient people throughout their personal journeys.

๐“ฆ๐“ฑ๐”‚ ๐“ฝ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ ๐“ท๐“ช๐“ถ๐“ฎ?
๐Ÿ’œ I noticed that many clients that I have worked with were missing nurturing in their lives, particularly ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ-๐ง๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  and ๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐-๐ง๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ . I also believe ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ-๐ฅ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž
is the foundation of optimal mental health and well-being. I wanted to create a space for clients to learn how to develop these essential qualities.

โญ๏ธ My vision for my practice was for it to become ๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐œ-๐›๐š๐ฌ๐ž๐, which I am so freaking excited about! I believe this will help so many more people. I completed training on ๐„๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐…๐ซ๐ž๐ž๐๐จ๐ฆ ๐“๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ž- ๐š๐ค๐š ๐„๐…๐“ (which is such an incredible experience!). I am also working on becoming certified as a ๐Œ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐Œ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐๐ž๐ซ (๐‚๐Œ๐‡๐ˆ๐Œ๐). Did I mention that as of 2020 I am a certified ๐Š๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ข ๐˜๐จ๐ ๐š ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ?! I have so many trainings and ideas that will be integrated in my practice in 2021. Stay tuned!

You are worthy because you are worthy, period. Worthiness is not about your job title, how much money you have, your level of success, or any other external factor.

๐Ÿ’Ÿ You are worthy of love and belonging because you are, period. You were born and that is the reason. There is a purpose to your life.

Even if you donโ€™t think you are worthy, it doesnโ€™t mean you arenโ€™t. ส€แด‡แดแด‡แดส™แด‡ส€: แด›สœแดแดœษขสœแด›๊œฑ แด€ส€แด‡ ษดแดแด› ษดแด‡แด„แด‡๊œฑ๊œฑแด€ส€ษชสŸส ๊œฐแด€แด„แด›๊œฑ. Self-love is needed in order to have healthy relationships with others. If you donโ€™t ๐Ÿ’œ yourself, there is a ๐“…๐“‡๐‘’๐“‰๐“‰๐“Ž good chance that you will attract people, who treat you poorly. People tend to feel most comfortable with what they are familiar with.

In my work as a mental health therapist, I have noticed that many people, who experience mental health struggles, often have poor relationships with themselves. This typically means having a low self-esteem and poor self-confidence.

๐’€๐’๐’– ๐’„๐’‚๐’ ๐’๐’†๐’‚๐’“๐’ ๐’•๐’ ๐’…๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’๐’๐’‘ ๐’”๐’†๐’๐’‡-๐’๐’๐’—๐’†, which like most things is a process. It takes work and can be extremely challenging. Therapy can be extremely helpful as you will have the support that you may need.

๐”ธ ๐•˜๐• ๐• ๐•• ๐•ค๐•ฅ๐•’๐•ฃ๐•ฅ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•˜ ๐•ก๐• ๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•ฅ ๐•ฅ๐•  ๐••๐•–๐•ง๐•–๐•๐• ๐•ก๐•š๐•Ÿ๐•˜ ๐•ค๐•–๐•๐•—-๐•๐• ๐•ง๐•– ๐•š๐•ค:

โœ… ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐˜€. This can vary from person-to-person. Some general examples are- exercise, nutrition, and sleep.

โœ… ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ ๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—น๐˜† ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ณ. Aka try to maintain positive self-talk. Talk to yourself like you would a loved one. Give yourself praise.

Your feelings are there for a reason. They are your guiding system that provide you with more information.

Tune into your feelings, rather than ignore them. Ignoring or ๐˜ด๐˜ถ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ them will not help you in the long-term.

๐Ÿ‘€ When you feel anxious, sad, upset, frustrated, etc. notice your feelings, as an observer, and remain curious about them.

๐’œ๐“ˆ๐“€ ๐“Ž๐‘œ๐“Š๐“‡๐“ˆ๐‘’๐“๐’ป ๐“‰๐’ฝ๐‘’ ๐’ป๐‘œ๐“๐“๐‘œ๐“Œ๐’พ๐“ƒ๐‘” ๐“†๐“Š๐‘’๐“ˆ๐“‰๐’พ๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐“ˆ:

1. What is causing me to feel this way?
2. What is this feeling trying to tell me?
3. What is a healthy way to handle this feeling?

โญ๏ธ In order to achieve optimum mental health, it is important to understand yourself (aka build ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ๐˜ง-๐˜ข๐˜ธ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด) and understand what is causing you to feel the way that you do.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป For instance, it may be that you felt disrespected, invalidated, or misunderstood. Someone or something may be triggering a negative experience from your past.

๐Ÿ™‡๐Ÿปโ€โ™€โ€ Being triggered by a person or event from you past may be a sign that you have some unresolved issues. This is especially true if you notice a pattern. The feeling(s) may be communicating with you to look at a particular situation more deeply and work on healing it.

๐Ÿ’œ Another example- if you feel overwhelmed or stressed because you have not taken care of yourself. This could mean that you would benefit from implementing self-care practices.

สœแด‡แด€สŸแด›สœส แดกแด€ส๊œฑ แดแด€ส ษชษดแด„สŸแดœแด…แด‡:

โœ… Talking to a friend or support person.
โœ… Writing about your feelings in a journal.
โœ… Moving your body through some form of exercise.

แดœษดสœแด‡แด€สŸแด›สœส แดกแด€ส๊œฑ แดแด€ส ษชษดแด„สŸแดœแด…แด‡:

โŒ Getting drunk or using drugs
โŒ Becoming ๐˜ด๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ฑ๐˜ฑ๐˜บ or easily annoyed with people.
โŒ Adding more things on your plate to keep you distracted.

Itโ€™s normal to feel anxious about this process. ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’†๐’“๐’‚๐’‘๐’š ๐’„๐’‚๐’ ๐’‰๐’†๐’๐’‘ ๐’š๐’๐’– ๐’…๐’ ๐’”๐’ ๐’˜๐’Š๐’•๐’‰ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’”๐’–๐’‘๐’‘๐’๐’“๐’• ๐’•๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’š๐’๐’– ๐’Ž๐’‚๐’š ๐’๐’†๐’†๐’…. This can feel scary, but it can get better.

This is so delicious! I just ๐Ÿ’œ the coconut milk and cream. It has a thicker consistency- much like a milkshake. I made this for breakfast one morning and it was extremely satisfying. I also made it another time for an afternoon snack.

๐Ÿฅค Donโ€™t be fooled by this mood shake just having a few ingredients, as itโ€™s quite filling. I ended up sharing it with my husband because well, he wanted to try it and it was also too much for me to drink as a snack. He also ๐Ÿ’œ it.

๐Ÿ˜€ My mood and energy improved after drinking it. Hey, I understand this may be due to a placebo effect, but Iโ€™ll go with it anyhow.

๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€โ€Breathing exercises are common practices in therapy because they help to signal the brain and nervous system to calm down.

โœ… Sometimes people struggle with breathing exercises because they canโ€™t focus, or they dislike the feeling of stillness. I like this breathing technique because it is an active one.

Alternate nostril breathing can help with present awareness, which is beneficial for your overall wellbeing. This means that it helps take you out of your head and into your present surroundings.

๐Ÿ’ญ This is especially effective for mental health issues because present awareness can be difficult to achieve. For instance, someone with anxiety may have racing thoughts that they canโ€™t control. So, with this present awareness they are giving their brain a job to do, which allows them to focus.

๐šƒ๐š˜ ๐š™๐š›๐šŠ๐šŒ๐š๐š’๐šŒ๐šŽ ๐™ฝ๐šŠ๐š๐š’ ๐š‚๐š‘๐š˜๐š๐š‘๐šŠ๐š—๐šŠ (๐šŠ๐š•๐š๐šŽ๐š›๐š—๐šŠ๐š๐šŽ ๐š—๐š˜๐šœ๐š๐š›๐š’๐š• ๐š‹๐š›๐šŽ๐šŠ๐š๐š‘๐š’๐š—๐š):

1. Sit in a comfortable seated position.

2. Using your thumb, close your right nostril and inhale through your left nostril.

3. Using your ring finger, close your left nostril. Your right nostril should be open. Exhale slowly through your right nostril.

4. Inhale through the right nostril and then close it again.

5. Open your left nostril and exhale slowly.

6. Try this for several minutes.

Tip: Make sure your nose is clear before trying this.

I think Iโ€™m going to use this in my daily vocabulary. Itโ€™s so catchy.

I ๐Ÿ’œ this tee for several reasons:

๐Ÿคฌ I like the implied cursing. Itโ€™s edgy. Cursing can feel cathartic.

๐ŸŽ I have developed an affinity for succulents and enjoy caring for them.

๐Ÿ˜‚ Having a sense of humor is a must for my mental health (and yours!).

Sometimes you just have to say f*** it! Another way of putting this is- sometimes you just have to surrender and release control of things. It can feel difficult, especially if you struggle with anxiety. Just remember that itโ€™s about progress, not perfection.

Snorkeling that isโ€ฆ

I am absolutely terrified of sharks ๐Ÿฆˆ!!!(๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿป even posting this image creeps me out ๐Ÿ˜ณ)

Before we get to Bermuda, my husband tells me that he wants to snorkel ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I am freaking the f*** out, but I decide to conquer my fear and do it โœ…. 

Iฬฒ ฬฒaฬฒmฬฒ ฬฒfฬฒrฬฒeฬฒaฬฒkฬฒiฬฒnฬฒgฬฒ ฬฒrฬฒeฬฒaฬฒdฬฒyฬฒ ฬฒtฬฒoฬฒ ฬฒdฬฒoฬฒ ฬฒtฬฒhฬฒiฬฒsฬฒ ฬฒtฬฒhฬฒiฬฒnฬฒgฬฒ.ฬฒ

๐Ÿ When we get to our resort, the guy who gave us a tour, tells us that sometimes they see sharks ๐Ÿ˜ณ.

๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€โ€ So, we spent a few days swimming and I started to feel pretty confident. I was preparing for the BIG DAY. 

On the BIG DAY, we took a kayak out to a floating dock platform. I stepped onto the dock and stood there a while until I mustered up the courage to lower myself in the water (while holding on for dear life, of course). While near the dock, I eventually got into my snorkel rhythm.

After some time, I felt ready to leave the dock, so we swam further out. I had some panicked moments and thought about going back. I fought it. The water was also rough that day, so it made swimming more difficult. Of course, right ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€โ€?!

At times, I was just in the moment. I saw the most beautiful, colorful fish and coral. I even used my underwater camera and snapped pics ๐Ÿ“ธ). I snorkeled for much longer than I would have ever imagined. 

๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป ๐‘ฐ ๐’‡๐’†๐’๐’• ๐‘บ๐‘ถ ๐’‚๐’„๐’„๐’๐’Ž๐’‘๐’๐’Š๐’”๐’‰๐’†๐’…! ๐‘ฐ ๐’„๐’๐’๐’’๐’–๐’†๐’“๐’†๐’… ๐’Ž๐’š ๐’‡๐’†๐’‚๐’“!

โญ๏ธ If you are waiting for the ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ค๐˜ต ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต to make a change or face a fear, it may never happen. Donโ€™t get me wrong, itโ€™s okay to not be ready to do something (Heck, it took me over 10 years!), however, it is only an illusion if you think you will ever be truly ready. 

I took it one step ๐Ÿฉด at a time, handled each stressful moment as it came, and focused on my goal (seeing beautiful fish and coral).

๐Ÿ› One of my favorite self-care practices is taking a detox bath. It is unbelievably relaxing and beneficial for your mental health.

๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ•ฏ If you like ambiance, then I recommend listening to relaxing music, lighting candles, and leaving the lights off.

ฯ‰ะฝฮฑั‚ ัƒฯƒฯ… ฯ‰ฮนโ„“โ„“ ฮทั”ั”โˆ‚:

๐Ÿง‚ 2 c Epsom Salt
๐ŸŽ 1 c Apple Cider Vinegar
๐ŸŒ‹ 1/2 c Bentonite Clay
๐Ÿ’ง 5-10 drops of an essential Oil

Epsom salt- has magnesium, which is an essential mineral. It can help with stress, anxiety, and depression

Apple Cider vinegar- helps with dry, itchy skin, as well as other skin conditions. Helps restore the pH balance of your skin.

Bentonite clay- has magnesium. Draws out impurities and toxins, including metals from your skin. ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐ฆ๐š๐ข๐ง ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐ž๐ญ๐จ๐ฑ ๐›๐š๐ญ๐ก. โž• An added bonus- you can use it as a face mask, as well as for other uses. Do some research to find the best one.

Lavender Essential Oil: promotes relaxation. Helps with anxiety. Reduces inflammation and promotes hormonal balance. You can use other essential oils also. Iโ€™d pick a relaxing scent. My fav brand is .us

Clary Sage Essential Oil: helps your mental health. Can help with depression, fatigue, tension, and stress.

Run your bath water, add ingredients, and soak for 20-40 minutes.

Bring a glass of water to sip as you will most likely get thirsty.

This would be great to do before bed as you will be nice and relaxed.

๐ŸŒพ Whole grain (quinoa, brown rice, buckwheat, or millet)
๐Ÿฅ› Nondairy milk (I like almond milk)
๐Ÿฅฅ Coconut milk
๐Ÿญ Sweetener (I used stevia because I had it on hand)
๐Ÿฆ Vanilla bean or vanilla extract
๐Ÿฅญ Mangos or peaches
๐Ÿซ Toppings (dried fruits, nuts, seeds, cinnamon, cacao powder, stevia)

๐™Ž๐™ค๐™ข๐™š ๐™ค๐™› ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™—๐™š๐™ฃ๐™š๐™›๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™จ:

๐Ÿง  Coconut milk and almond milk- good for the brain and mood, can help with dementia

๐Ÿ˜€ Cacao powder- anti-inflammatory, supports the brain, memory, and mood

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ˜ข Vanilla- anti-inflammatory, helps with mental health (I.E. depression) and cognitive functions

๐Ÿ˜€ Mango- source of vitamin B, can help to boost your mood

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Peach- source of magnesium, which helps with stress and anxiety

๐Ÿง  Cinnamon- can aid in memory, help with cognitive functioning, and possibly help with anxiety and depression

๐Ÿฅฃ So, I tried this recipe 2xs and it is absolutely delicious! It reminds me of rice pudding, but better because of the coconut milk.

The first time I made it I used brown rice and the second time millet. I preferred the texture of the brown rice. It absorbed the coconut milk so well and there was no shortage of flavor! I also experimented with mangos๐Ÿฅญ and peaches ๐Ÿ‘ and liked peaches better.

โฐ Allow yourself 30-45 minutes to make this recipe. It took longer than expected and time really depends on the grain you use. Brown rice took longer.

๐Ÿ˜ซ ANXIETY IS THE MOST COMMON MENTAL HEALTH DISORDER.

โŒ Kids, teens, and adults can struggle with this mental health disorder. Itโ€™s not always obvious as to who struggles with anxiety. Itโ€™s not as simple as saying itโ€™s someone who โ€œworries.โ€

๐Ÿ˜– Everyone worries, but for people with an anxiety disorder they canโ€™t easily work through it. Therefore, telling them to โ€œcalm downโ€ or โ€œdonโ€™t worryโ€ can make them feel even more frustrated.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป Some people with anxiety disorders are highly functioning, you wouldnโ€™t necessarily know. That doesnโ€™t mean that they arenโ€™t suffering. It can still feel incredibly tiring, draining, and isolating.

People with anxiety disorders can feel shame, embarrassment, or guilt. They are often afraid to talk about it.

๐ŸŒŸ ANXIETY DISORDERS ARE HIGHLY TREATABLE.

๐Ÿ’œ Itโ€™s important that people, who struggle with anxiety, are provided with the love, patience, and support of their loved ones so that they are more open to therapy. Letโ€™s face it, therapy is not easy and it takes a great deal of courage and strength.

๐Ÿ›‘ Letโ€™s STOP the stigma and STOP acting like mental health issues, like anxiety disorders, donโ€™t exist.

Self-Care isnโ€™t always about doing something. Sometimes itโ€™s just the opposite, "not doing" something. I found myself in this position last weekend because I was physically, emotionally, and mentally drained. I decided I needed to remove anything that wasnโ€™t absolutely necessary. That meant breaking my plans and not doing any chores. It was tough because I felt somewhat guilty, however, I stuck it out because I knew I really needed this. I noticed that my energy and mood improved. Ah, I think Iโ€™ll try more of "not doing" something.

Some examples of โ€œnot doing" something are:

โ€ข Saying โ€œnoโ€ to spending time with people, who drain your energy.
โ€ข Deciding not to do chores for the day (or several days) because you need the time to relax
โ€ข Instead of cooking, order out. Itโ€™s a win-win as you donโ€™t have to spend time cooking and thereโ€™s no dishes!
โ€ข Breaking plans because your mentally, physically, and emotionally drained.
โ€ข Telling your friend or family member that you canโ€™t listen to their venting or negativity.
โ€ข Avoiding watching the news or anything that stresses you out more

One positive thing about is that itโ€™s allowed me to complete a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training virtually with a school in India. Pre-covid, they were not allowed to teach virtually. What I love about Kundalini Yoga is that it allows you to connect your breath (prana) with poses (asanas). This combination allows for optimal relaxation. I love how I feel when I engage in this practice, so I want to teach it to others. I am committed to incorporating yoga into counseling sessions because I know that it can help so much. I am going to start teaching specific practices that would be most helpful for issues such as anxiety, depression, and stress. Communication does NOT always work.

Here are some possible reasons:

~ There is an unsupportive response (critical, negative, or invalidating).
~ You or the other person struggle with managing difficult emotions.
~ An issue that interferes (trauma, attention-span issues, cognitive deficit, anxiety).
~ It took place at the wrong time (you and/or the other person is in a bad mood, time constraints, distractions)
~ Being fearful of the other personโ€™s response or the consequences.

Communication is different than simply stating your opinions or feelings. It involves one person talking, one person actively listening. The good news is that many communication issues are fixable. However, BOTH parties need to be willing to fix them- itโ€™s a two-way street! If you are doing your part and itโ€™s still not working, consider this- โญ๏ธ IT MAY NOT BE YOU! and this- โญ๏ธ THE OTHER PERSON MAY JUST NOT BE CAPABLE!

Change must happen within YOU first. YOU start by being aware of what YOU want to change. YOU decide YOU want to change. YOU need to believe in yourself, even itโ€™s a teeny, tiny amount. YOU absolutely, positively can change your life for the better. Take small steps. With enough small steps YOU can make great strides. Develop self-discipline, itโ€™s a necessary ingredient to making changes.

Not sure if you are capable?! Look at the many, many people who have and study them closely. I can assure YOU that their mindset was their driving force. If yours isnโ€™t working, then change it. Yes, you have the power. Thatโ€™s something that no one can take from YOU.
