Preparing for Miss Alabama week includes so much- including meal prep ;)

so amazed by God’s abundant grace + glory as I head into this next week.

A week from today, a new miss Alabama will be crowned. No matter the outcome, every candidate within the Miss Alabama organization walks away with friendships, scholarships, & joyful memories. I count myself lucky to be among them.

I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to spread my Papaw’s story & raise Alzheimer’s awareness in this state. At the end of the day, this journey is not for my edification or glory, but for the Kingdom of Heaven & my sweet Papaw.

See you soon, :)

HOMESTRETCHIN’ to MISS ALABAMA!

I am beyond excited to return to my alma mater for an amazing week at Miss Alabama.

Preparing at Samford has been bitter sweet, as I just graduated this April. Returning to my old dance studio, walking the halls I knew as a student, & driving around campus has been so sweet as I prepare for Miss Alabama.

Tickets are on sale online at Miss Alabama’s website- you don’t want to miss this amazing week!

I am so excited to bring back my talent to the Miss Alabama Stage.

I chose “My Man” to pay homage to the amazing Barbra Streisand & the golden age movies I grew up loving.

It also operates as a “thank you” to my momma, who gave me a strong love for music, theatre, and the arts.

I was 14 when I sang “funny girl” at my school’s talent show. I knew I loved performing, & I am so excited to perform once again at such an incredible venue.

See you at the Wright Center so soon :)

(a day late)

Miss Alabama has given me a place to hone my skills, perform, wear gorgeous dresses, & fund my education.

What other place can do all of that!

I am so grateful to the for providing me opportunity after opportunity for so much growth, development, & support as I pursue my personal & educational goals.

I’ve earned over $3000 dollars in scholarship from one year of competition- all which funded my last semester at Samford & beyond.

Now, I am pursuing my Master’s in Social Work at George Mason University, where I will not only gain general skill in social work but also research, teach, & develop my knowledge in Alzheimer’s & gerontology.

I feel blessed beyond words to be free to pursue my lifelong goals because of the generous scholarship dollars of the Miss Alabama Organization.

I feel empowered to conquer my wildest aspirations because of this amazing organization.

One week until Miss Alabama round 2!

This my heart goes out to all family’s struggling under the weight of an diagnosis.

One of the most profound moments of my life was watching my own father become a father to his own, as my papaw lost the ability to take care of himself.

The parent became the child as the blessing of years of care was returned- and gratefully so. It is an image I have thought of often today as I remember the incredible men who have stood as father figures in my life.

If you or a loved one is struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease, reach out to & know you are not alone.

“I Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Gospel of God” Romans 1:1

In my first Miss Alabama interview, these words ran on repeat in my head. “A servant of Jesus Christ, set apart and called for the Gospel of God.”

The words of Romans 1 provide an example for Christians. I often find it easy to define myself based on my grades, my titles, my success- but never my failures, my missteps, nor my mess.

But God doesn’t do that. Instead, through Paul, he shows us how we are to define ourselves.

When introducing himself, Paul gives us three simple phrases: servant of Christ, called to follow, and set apart for the Gospel.

For Paul, this is what “sums him up:” the Gospel truth of Christ.

Therefore, my is on these three simple, yet powerful definitions. I love this picture because I find it to be a real picture of me- stripped down, bare face, with my slouchy overalls and messy hair. There is truth in the messy, there is hope in the failure, and God’s sovereignty in the missteps.

God loves us in the picture perfect and in the messy- for we are servants of Christ, called for a purpose, and set apart for the Gospel of God.

On this I am sharing ’s , my social impact initiative within the Miss Alabama Organization.

When I was seven years old, my Papaw was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and finally succumbed to the disease in March of 2021. I watched with horror as I lost my grandfather three years before his actual death.

His disease encouraged me to volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association, and eventually begin "Arts for Alzheimer's, an initiative that advocates for the use of arts- based therapies in the business of healing for those with Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of dementia.

I have also used my platform to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama and work for the past three years in various internship positions, fundraising events, and advocacy roles.

I have been blessed beyond belief to have raised money, advocated for legislation, and promote Alzheimer’s awareness for the past five years; first as a volunteer and now as a Miss Alabama candidate.

Because of Miss Alabama, I am pursuing my Masters degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Adults and Healthy Aging at George Mason University, where I will be teaching theatre to adults with MCI and Alzheimer’s while researching the impact of the arts in various therapies.

Arts for Alzheimer’s began almost ten years ago when my Papaw, well into his diagnosis, recalled the words and notes to his favorite hymns while surrounded by family faces now unrecognizable to him. Music bridged the gap between us all, making us a family once again. Everything I do is - Alzheimer’s may have stolen him away from us too soon, but it will never take away his legacy.

MEET ME ON MONDAY:
(& a little music Monday too!)

I have always loved to perform. From a little girl in ruby red slippers singing “somewhere over the rainbow” in my living room to performing with symphonies & on the Miss Alabama stage, I have felt the power of music.

Music & theatre provided a little girl with a lot to say an avenue to express everything that was going on in her head. Through my involvement in the arts, I found ways to express myself & get involved in my community.

I love telling stories & I am so thankful for the opportunity to tell mine on the Miss Alabama stage!

10/04/2022

Unfiltered, raw, real.

These past couple of weeks I have not been present on this account or in the Miss America world.

I was feeling burn out from my efforts while also trying to graduate college while applying, waiting, and crying over graduate degrees and my attempt to answer the ultimate question on every college senior’s mind- what comes next?

I have been so tired emotionally, physically, and spiritually- but I felt the strong need to share this with all of you.

Being a local title holder and working towards the job of Miss Alabama is not an easy gig- especially in the midst of a chaotic personal life.

With papers mounting, research needing to be completed, and graduate papers waiting, I dropped one of the many balls I was struggling to juggle.

So,
I decided to take a step back from my socials and focus on getting through my graduate applications.

After these past couple of hectic weeks, I have decided that it is OKAY to be burnt out. In a world that constantly tells you to “go,” it is okay to hold out your hand and say “stop.”

I am feeling reinvigorated and ready to take on the next challenge, but only because I decided to put my mental and physical health first. I encourage you all to take care of yourself, and do not be afraid of the “raw.”

I grew up around the Miss America organization, & my mother raised me to love & look up to the women who wore the crown.

TESTIMONY TUESDAY:

In 2006 my paternal grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. For the past three years, I have worked tirelessly as both a volunteer and employee of the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama, advocating for the 96,000 Alabamians that suffer from Alzheimer’s. Utilizing my background in theatre, I have promoted the use of various creative art forms in care, while also educating people on the impact of this disease. My goal is to work with non-profits, like the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, to open the first Alzheimer’s Village in the United States; an assisted living facility with an emphasis on holistic care through community engagement, education, and non-traditional therapies. I may have lost my grandfather in March of 2021, but I will never stop fighting until we end Alzheimer’s.

Donate to my cause today by following the link in my bio & help me end Alzheimer’s disease!

MEET ME ON MONDAY:

On Monday’s I will be sharing a little bit about myself so you can get to know your Miss North Jefferson Area 2022!

Alzheimer’s has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. However, advocacy is new. Nowadays, I tell people my personality is 100% Jesus, but within that is 70% Alzheimer’s, 20% politics, & 10% coffee.

Advocating for Alzheimer’s Disease is my passion and calling- I know God has designed me for this purpose.

Currently, I serve on the Young Professionals Board for The Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama and am the public policy intern for the 2022 spring term.

As Miss North Jefferson Area, I am a champion for the chapter and LOVE working with 💜

Ultimately, I desire to work for the Alzheimer’s Association one day and eventually found my own non-profit centered around providing much needed services and consulting to local nursing homes, while also operating my own “Alzheimer’s village” that provides cognitive care to those with Alzheimer’s.

Follow me to learn more & follow to stay in the know with all things Alzheimer’s in the state of Alabama!

It is an honor to be your Miss North Jefferson Area for 2022 and promote awareness for Alzheimer’s and other related dementia’s throughout this year of service.

Timeline photos 11/11/2021

Advocacy can look so many different ways. I decided to get involved in the Miss America organization to have a platform to speak about my grandfather’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s Disease. Since then, I have been able to volunteer and intern for the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama, working towards a future with the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.
