Me: Because those teachers gave up a night to serve their community. Because life is too short to not be hyped for the intense drama of Book Bingo. Because I want my kinds to love all the adventures in life, even when they take place in a school gym. Because celebrating is fun, especially when people are involved. Because I’m the grandson of an English professor. Because celebrating the little things reminds me of oh so many good things. And, because it’s fun.

Here’s to conferences that give a reason go.

Here’s to new friends, to high-fives and gracious hospitality.

Each Christmas Eve, everyone in my family gets a new book or two and we tell our kids they can stay up as late as they want. I know, I know; we are some crazy party people what with our books and reading and all. We all have come to love it and look forward to it each year. This is my book for this year and I can’t wait to get under the covers and start into it.

Whatever traditions you do or do not have, whether you are spending this Christmas alone or with friends or with family or both, may this time bring you greater joy and rest. Peace and goodwill to all and to all a goodnight.
