They're coming (with labels) for your gas stoves 17/06/2024

Just when you thought Government had already proposed the worlds dumbest idea, Albany says " Hold Our Beer". We don't need warning labels on gas stoves. We need warning labels on politicians

They're coming (with labels) for your gas stoves Environmental groups are backing bills in California, New York and Illinois to put labels on gas stoves warning of their health hazards.

Update on New York's cap-and-invest program and proposed reporting requirements for greenhouse gases 14/06/2024

It's nice to see some NY policymakers finally focus on affordability. Recently that was the motivator behind Gov. Hochul pausing NYC Congestion Pricing and the Assembly blocking the NY Heat Act and mandates go reduce plastic packaging. The next issue we need to grapple with is New York's Cap and Invest Climate scheme. This program is set to cost ratepayers $12 billion. We urge the Governor to take a much closer look at these cost impacts and consider whether moving head long down this road is still a viable consideration

Update on New York's cap-and-invest program and proposed reporting requirements for greenhouse gases Peter Trimarchi and Nicholas Castriz of Reed Smith LLP discuss proposals for new regulations that would include stringent controls on two potent greenhouse gases (GHGs), as well as the continued rollout of the Cap-and-Invest plan.

Albany.... where unconstitutional bills go to advance anyway. Let's work together and stop this one!

The 2024 Albany Power 100 13/05/2024

A big congratulations to our Executive Director Daniel Ortega for being named one of the 100 most powerful people in Albany! Dan is an excellent leader but it's important to note that our power comes from you- consumers and ratepayers who support our mission and aren't afraid to stand up for what's right! Cheers Dan, we are lucky to have you

Op-Ed: Superfund Bill not so Super for NY Businesses - Mid Hudson News 12/05/2024

Great op ed from John Ravitz Exec Director of opposing the Climate Superfund Bill. When will NY policy makers stop their efforts to chase jobs out of NYS?

Op-Ed: Superfund Bill not so Super for NY Businesses - Mid Hudson News by John Ravitz, Executive Vice President of the Business Council of Westchester   Climate change is real, and New York should continue to invest in energy efficiency, renewable electric power, and other greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies. These actions can have direct benefits and produce...

11/05/2024

Last week the Senate passed the so called " Climate Change Superfund Act" and the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee will consider this bill next week. This proposal is far from " super". In fact it's likely unconstitutional. The bill would essentially fine fossil fuel companies for the impacts of climate change going back to the year 2000. The problem ? Fossil fuels are legal and the burning of them is legal. Fossil Fuel companies have followed all the rules and abided by all the regulations. How can a company get fined retroactively for engaging in a legal activity? While far left Democrats in the legislature continue to make it easier on actual criminals in New York they are also seeking to criminalize the legitimate activities of law abiding businesses. This is outrageous and we urge everyone to strongly oppose it.

Commentary: How much, exactly, is the energy transition going to cost us? 10/05/2024

Very interesting commentary by John Howard who served on the State Public Service Commission from 2019-2024. He was appointed by Andrew Cuomo. Howard says that New Yorkers have a right to know the real costs of transitioning to 100% renewable energy. We strongly agree. Up to now policymakers have refused to lay out that information. Why? They know residents would get sticker shock. Another fun fact, even if we do invest the massive amount of money it would take to make this transition, we would only reduce global emissions by one half or one percent! Its long past time that politicians start being honest with their constituents about this issue.

Commentary: How much, exactly, is the energy transition going to cost us? New York must be honest and transparent with residents about its efforts to fight climate change — starting with the price tag.

The Partisan Chasm on Energy Policies 09/05/2024

This article demonstrates what we've been saying all along- The only reasonable approach to energy policy is " All of the Above". By wide margins Americans agree that we should pursue the development of all forms of energy in order to keep costs affordable and supply plentiful. That's exactly what our organization is fighting for here in New York.

The Partisan Chasm on Energy Policies “All of the above” is the only energy approach with widespread support.

Good news! The State Budget adopted this past weekend DID NOT include the disastrous NY Heat Act! Thanks to all of you for calling and writing your legislators and the Governor. You made a difference for your fellow New Yorkers. While we have won this battle we have not won the war. Far left climate alarmists will stop at nothing to get this and other policies detrimental to working families adopted. We must remain vigilant and we will

Editorial: No spin required 26/03/2024

Even the Albany Times Union Editorial Board is concerned about the true ratepayer impact of New York's existing climate policies. They say we need facts and not spin and they are 100% correct. When we can't even measure the costs imposed by current policies, why would we pass a new costly mandate like the NY HEAT Act?

Editorial: No spin required When it comes to the state’s various climate change initiatives, New Yorkers need the facts.

25/03/2024

Last week, the NY Heat Act was debated on the Senate Floor. Under questioning by the bill's opponents, Senator Liz Krueger, the main sponsor relied on alot of misinformation in order to make this bad bill seem acceptable. I guess she didn't have alot of options. When you are trying to sell a bill that raises utiltiy rates, eliminates jobs and forces consumers to convert their homes to electric heat, your only option is to hide the truth. Well, luckily we were watching and we created the attached chart so consumers can compare the facts about the bill with the answers Senator Krueger gave on the floor of the Senate. Please share this far and wide so people can see the true implications of passing the NY Heat Act.

Gov. Hochul just can’t stop doing that electric slide! First she takes away your right to choose natural gas, and then slides you a bill for up to $50,000!

Mattera Senator George Borrello New York State Senator Tom O'Mara Rob Rolison Senator Rob Ortt and the whole Senate Republican Conference for standing up for ratepayers and against more government overreach!

Green Guardrails - Empire Center for Public Policy 28/02/2024

An illuminating report that shows that New York's climate policies will cost ratepayers at least $600 billion. If course to get to that number you have to accept Albany's estimates which are usually flawed. The overwhelming likelihood is that the State's ideological war on safe, affordable natural gas will cost ratepayers trillions of dollars and our State government simply doesn't care. In fact, one PSC Commissioner recently put it this way "We have to put our hands in both pockets—and other pockets—because it won’t be cheap, and who cares.”

That's the attitude in Albany when comes to you and your family- who cares. Enough is enough. Join our movement to change course. We need common sense energy policy in New York now- before its too late

Green Guardrails - Empire Center for Public Policy The headlong, secretive process around implementing New York's 2019 Climate Act – inherited from a governor who resigned in disgrace – runs the risk of saddling New Yorkers with both a less reliable electrical grid and rules across the entire economy that impose enormous expense.

21/02/2024

Earlier this month NYAE was denied the right to testify at the Legislature's joint budget hearings, simply because we support a common sense energy policy that includes access to safe, affordable natural gas. Luckily our friend Assemblyman Phil Palmesano came to the rescue. In defiance of the Committee Chairs. the Assemblyman read our ENTIRE budget statement into the record! On behalf of hardworking consumers, businesses and working men and women-we say-Thank you!

21/02/2024

We are lucky to have common sense fighters like Senator Mario R. Mattera working in Albany to protect consumers from bad policies like the NY Heat Act and the Affordable Gas Transition Act. Thank you Senator!

We are disappointed but not surprised that the Senate Majority chose to advance the NY HEAT Act out of committee this morning. We thank those principled and brave Senators, especially Senator Mario R. Mattera and Senator George Borrello , who raised critical questions about cost and reliability and did not support this deeply flawed measure.

13/02/2024

As the downstate region faces snow and cold temperatures, let's not forget how NYS heats its homes. Don't let the climate extremists have their way and ban gas!
