Presentation Topic: DeMYSTIFYING Estate Planning
About the Presentation: Many people have estate planning on their to-do lists and for good reason! Estate planning supports essential aspects of our well-being, including financially providing for ourselves and our loved ones when we can’t. Getting it all written down and “legal” gives you peace of mind. Yet, planning often remains on that to-do list – also for good reason: it’s a big project that requires learning new aspects of the legal system, talking about death and disability, and organizing finances.
In DeMYSTIFYING Estate Planning, Attorney Erica Payne uses storytelling and her favorite trial demonstration techniques to make estate planning more approachable! Topics covered include:
– How does property pass after death?
– What’s a trust?
– What’s a ladybird deed?
– What does “avoiding probate” mean?
– What does a will do?
About Erica Payne: After 12 years as a probate and real estate trial attorney, Erica set out to give her fellow Yoopers other trustworthy options for legal services. She opened Taproot Law, PLLC, in 2023 to experiment with legal services and products that bridge the gap between the legal zooms of the world and traditional, full-service law to serve rural communities. By applying human-centered design to the law, Erica has created a practice that educates and advises people in a way they understand, meets their needs, and enables them to make informed decisions with confidence.
Erica is passionate about advocacy for people in rural communities, especially of lower socioeconomic groups. Erica is curious about the world and the people around her. She enjoys deep conversation, gardening, and creating. Her favorite part of the day is an afternoon nap with her cat (Cider) and dog (Nyla).

Introducing Emily Paavola of Emily Paavola RN Myofascial Release! Emily says: I have dedicated my study in pursuit of understanding the way the body, mind, and spirit connect and the ways to promote healing. In John Barnes’ technique of myofascial release, I apply traction on the skin which extends like a “handle” on the fascia. The fascia holds emotion and consciousness. I assist the body to continue to release it’s holding pattern. The result is a relief of pain, feeling looser, and more range of motion in the body.
Fun Fact: I collect books and love second hand art pieces.

Introducing Kira Treloar of Stardust Healing Center! The mission of Stardust Healing Center is to support the health, wellbeing and healing of each unique individual, as well as the community that surrounds them. Our downtown Iron Mountain location offers multiple treatment rooms available for various modalities, and our retail space carries herbs, herbal tea blends, plants, art, jewelry, crystals, gemstones, essential oils, diffusers, natural healing body products, candles, incense, wellness gift sets, and more! We support the regional community by carrying locally made products and art as often as possible. We also offer various music and art events that are focused on community healing, co-creation, connection and empowerment. Our hope is that these things can bring positive change to the world around us.
Fun Fact: The vision of Stardust Healing Center started with the creation of The Marquette Love Show over 10 years ago! The show was about community love and it was around Valentine's Day. It was set with the intention of bringing people together through the universal force of love within and around us all. It was empowering. The show had an opening meditation, a local fashion show, a DJ, some beautiful drag queen MCs, 5 music acts, and over 25 artists, and we raised money for Save the Wild UP too! The heart vibration that evening created a ripple effect that inspired my fiancé and I to organize many regional mini festivals down in Wisconsin after that. Our community organization called The Stardust Experiment brought so many people together and it was so healing for everyone involved. Stardust Healing Center just opened this year, but the vision started so long ago! We are so grateful to everyone that has been part of our 'star family' along the way, and we are so excited for future connections and collaborations as well!
