We have had 4 dogs pass away of heatstroke in our community in the last 10 days...Please keep your pets at home and when they are at home, make sure they have access to shelter and water if they are outside.

According to city ordinance 91.015, "No owner or Harborer shall allow an Animal(s) to remain outside continuously for more than fifteen (15) minutes without access to Adequate Shelter and potable water." It continues to say, "Animal(s) must be brought into a temperature controlled structure when the temperature is at or below 10 degrees Fahrenheit or at or above 85 degrees Fahrenheit..."

According to city ordinance 91.032, "No animals shall be left unattended in a vehicle and/or in the open area of a vehicle or a trailer when conditions may constitute a health hazard to the Animal(s) and/or jeopardizes the safety of the Animal(s)..."

Your car is like an oven in this heat. Think about wearing your heaviest winter coat and sitting in your car; that is how your dog feels. If you see a dog or any animal trapped in a car, please call your local authorities immediately since each minute counts.
