Tuesday, January 3 at 5PM Mountain Time - FREE Monthly Natural Transitions Forum: The Parlour

Karen and Heather, co-hosts of The Parlour, want to take this opportunity at the outset of 2023, to find out who you are, those who come to The Parlour each month. We’re diverging from our normal format somewhat by encouraging some community sharing and connecting by having 3 breakout room sessions instead of just one.

This will be a fun exploration of the members of our Natural Transitions community. Heather and Karen will share some of their recent adventures in natural death education - Karen making documentaries, editing a magazine, teaching natural death care workshops, founding a funeral home and then moving on, and Heather, leading workshops, co-founding the National Home Funeral Alliance, writing for professional publications, and sponsoring community events.

Heather and Karen will do this to reveal a bit more of their souls and their own passions in this unique arena.

Then we’ll have a a series of 3 breakout rooms for you to connect by pondering and sharing about these questions:

3 Questions for the 1st Parlour of 2023:
Who are you?
Why are you interested in death?
What do you want us (Natural Transitions' The Parlour) to offer in 2023?

Looking forward to meeting you all!
Heather and Karen
SEE YOU THERE

In 2022, Natural Transitions, launched a live, monthly online forum/magazine we called The Parlour; a virtual successor to our much missed print magazine, Natural Transitions Magazine (free archival pdf copies at https://www.naturaltransitions.org/natural-transitions-magazine/).

A Union of East and West
Heather Massey from Massachusetts, Cape Cod, long-standing death care educator and home funeral guide, teamed up with Karen van Vuuren, Boulder, Colorado-based executive director of Natural Transitions, to host this new educational, community-building adventure.

Heather and Karen go back about fifteen years or more. Both were involved in the founding of the National Home Funeral Alliance, an organization dedicated to supporting the movement for family-directed after-death care.

But while that was their point of intersection, both Heather and Karen have been involved in myriad aspects of the end-of-life educational world as presenters, documentary-makers (Karen) and writers.

In this inaugural year of The Parlour, we have covered and have available for FREE on our website, the following episodes of The Parlour, accessible via our ARCHIVES PAGE:

Medical Aid in Dying (the untold story of MAID in America) with author and medical anthropologist, Anita Hannig
MAID (from the viewpoint of a spouse supporting her husband's choice) with author, Joanne Kelly
One Man's Grief Journey after the sudden death of a child with author (of I Keep Trying To Catch His Eye) Ivan Maisel

I am so proud of Seth Viddal and Chris Olachia for creating the Chrysalis - the first natural organic reduction vessel, in Colorado, built by The Natural Funeral. What a great story.
