REMINDER: Join us tonight, Sept. 7, for Bellingham Art Walk, starting at 6 PM!

About the Artist:
Charles was born and raised in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education he taught art for two years in high school. His interest in working with clay led to a Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics from the University of Puget Sound in 1974.

In 1974 he moved to Orcas Island and owned and operated Otter's Lair Pottery. During the time spent on Orcas, he continued to enjoy painting with watercolors and had a one-person showing of his work at Orcas Center in 1086. In 1987, he moved to Bellingham where he resumed his career in teaching art and ceramics at Lynden High School. He taught there through June 1999. Charles continues to live in Bellingham.

After retiring from teaching, Charles continued working with figure studies, watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting. His influence in drawing came from teachers, Thomas Schlotterbach, Lilli Mathews and more recently, Bellingham artist, Trish Harding. Painters that have influenced Charles' landscaper work are Sargent, Toulouse-Lautrec, Sisley, Van Gogh, William Merrit Chase and the Fauves,. Among Charles' favorite local landscaper artists are Lilli Mathews, the late Joel Brock, the late John Cole, and Mary Froderberg.

This exhibition is a result of Charles' interest in the landscape of the Bellingham area, Whatcom County, Borrego Springs area in southern California, Italy, France and the French Riviera. Several paintings were painted "en plein air" while others were painted and completed in the studio.

Tomorrow night is the Bellingham Downtown Art Walk, from 6:00–10:00 PM. Come check out local artist, Craig Wellbrock's artwork featured at Woods Railroad!

Craig is an artist from Gig Harbor, WA. He is a firefighter, husband, artist, and dad of two girls. Craig and his family love Washington, and find a constant source of inspiration living within the PNW.

Craig’s creations are purposely designed to complement rather than compete within a space. His recent White Minimal works are created on sustainable birch wood, layering acrylic paints, textures, and movement.
