I love when a customer order creates a palette that's just *chef's kiss*. Thank YOU all for always inspiring me! 🌈 Left to right are my hand-dyed floss colors (twisted together in sets of 2) Bali & Madison, Sunshine Coast & Key West, Nile & Nova Scotia, Geneva & Vegas, Whitsunday & Shenandoah.

25/01/2022

Working on some new floss photos and adding more colors to my shop! Love how these accidently coordinated. Left to right: Potomac, Lovecraft, Tangier, Blue Ridge (NEW!), Pluto (NEW!), Transylvania (NEW!). All of my floss starts on brand white so it's the highest quality 6-strand cotton. Which color is your favorite?

10/01/2022

My (almost) complete blackwork SAL frame! Only in posting this photo did I realize I forgot two yellow hexes on the right side 😁 Regardless, I'm ready for the first hex fill release coming January 16 in the Facebook group (FREE!) or Ko-Fi ($3/month) - are you?? This is the Rainbow palette on Adelaide (pale purple/gray) aida - floss and fabric packs are available for order on Etsy in my shop (not required for participation). Yay!!

02/06/2021

Same colors, same materials, but different techniques and saturation! Which do you prefer? Top left is 1, top right is 2, bottom left is 3, bottom right is 4.

25/05/2021

How perfect is it that my first batch of floss orders makes this sweet rainbow?? I swear I didn't set this up! Top to bottom is Bali (x2), Key West, Iguazu (x2), Nile, Shenandoah, Sierra (x4). Shipping out tomorrow and plenty more colors up in my shop!

It's beginning to feel like spring!! It's amazing what that does for my mood. And of course spring also makes me want to get out and hike! Here's a throwback to April 2016 at the start of one VERY long trail... can you guess where it is?

We’re introducing a really ambitious project today: the Eyes of a Needle COVID Stitch-Along Project. The goal is for stitchers around the world to come together to create a virtual “quilt” of embroidery projects to commemorate those who have died of COVID. Our goal is to collect a stitch for every person who has passed - as of today, March 22, that’s 2.72 million people. Sadly it will continue to go up for a long time, and we want to honor and remember them with our craft. Please feel free to share this far and wide - we want people around the world to be able to come together though stitching.

Goals:

Collect ~3,000,000 stitches from all around the world to commemorate the lives lost to COVID.

Collect stories of what embroidery has meant for people during lockdown.

Collect pictures of meaningful projects and the stories that go with them.

Raise money for a wide variety of charities.

How to participate:

-Stitch a project approximately 4” square, either cross stitch or embroidery. What you stitch is entirely up to you - it can be a picture, words, something abstract, a full block of color, a single lone stitch - whatever you feel like doing. Maybe it’s something that represents your time in lockdown, or your experience with COVID, or your hopes for the future. Keep track of how many stitches you make.

-When you’re done, record your participation here: https://forms.gle/3TsGnTNNocKXxkdC7. We ask for some info about you, about what you stitched, how many stitches you added, your stories, and a photo of your project. We’ll use this to start building a virtual quilt of projects, hopefully from all around the world, and will collect and share the stories that go with the projects.

-Optional - if you’d like to donate money in honor of this project, please do so! We are not collecting any money. Choose a cause that means something to you and donate directly to them - consider donating 1 cent per stitch. We are recording this information to track the impact of this project, but it’s completely optional to donate or to tell us about it. See the comments for a list of impactful charities to consider.

-Want to participate but can’t afford the supplies? Sign up for a donated cross stitch kit here: https://forms.gle/dijmKUoHCV3nDHpR6. I’ll reach out via email (first come, first served) when kits are donated. They’ll be super basic but enough to participate.

-Want to donate a kit to someone in financial need? It costs only $4 to enable someone to be able to participate. You can purchase one kit donation here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/972310142/donate-a-stitch-along-kit-eyes-of-a?ref=shop_home_active_1&crt=1 You can also purchase a basic kit for yourself in my shop if that’s convenient for you.

Please share questions below as I’m sure there’s info I’ve forgotten! Can’t wait to see how you all choose to create!

Finally! I've been wanting to build a pegboard floss wall for months and I finally had the time and space to do it. I created my own custom color-based order because the DMC number order makes no sense to me and I wanted something beautiful to look at in my studio. So here is the result of hours of planning - 488 floss colors being assembled!

16/02/2021

Here it is! 9 weeks after our start, the Winter is done! It's been so fun to stitch along with you all and see how everyone customised their own projects. If you weren't able to join us for the SAL, the full pattern will be up in my shop this week!

14/02/2021

I haven't shared an in-progress dye photo in a while! Here's 2 yards of in my Hemingway color nearly done batching for our upcoming embroidery . I'm so torn between the three colors for my own project but I think this will be the one! It comes out the most perfect swirly dreamy sky blue that I also kind of want to do a tee shirt 😉

10/02/2021

Sometimes it's hard to imagine what floss will look good on which background. Need a floss toss? I got you! This one is for a lovely sea turtle pattern and the customer ended up picking... ALL of them! Which would you go with? Floss is 3811, 964, 156, 3843, and 311 on my colors Edinburgh, Santorini, a new to-be-named sky blue, and Neptune !

06/02/2021

If you're in the S*M Embroidery Facebook group, you know we've just announced our upcoming FREE embroidery stitch along that will be starting March 1! It's literature themed, and you can stitch it as one big piece or turn it into five bookmarks! Of course I'm offering dyed Kona cotton backgrounds, AND we're super excited to partner with to help everyone personalize their projects. Here's their "In a Perfect World" palette on my Hemingway fabric! I think it'll be perfect for the Classic Romance bookmark, don't you? 3689, 554, 210, 31, 3807, 793 💜💗💙

04/02/2021

There are always little splats and spills when I'm working in the studio. Sometimes the paper towels I use to mop them up turn into their own works of art!

01/02/2021

Something a little different today - I took about 30 minutes yesterday to go through all my color samples of dyed aida and put them into some kind of order. It's 96 different colors (although some are so close that I wouldn't list both) - I have some work to do to get them all listed in the shop! In the meantime there are about 30 already up 😉 Hope you find this as satisfying as I did!

29/01/2021

A swirly little watercolor detail. What would you stitch on here? I'm considering doing a series of city skyline patterns! I think the straight lines would look awesome against the softness of the colors.

17/01/2021
