Hiʻiakawaiola was just about to turn 10 days old. I remember snuggling in our rocking chair, trying to stay awake as I rocked her back to sleep. As I scrolled through my feed, post after post, video after video, filled with the unimaginable. ‘Lahaina is gone. Lahaina is gone.’ Those words echoed within me. I called to check on my family—no answer.

Kaniela wandered the kitchen at dawn, as we tried to comprehend the unimaginable. You see, Paʻakanialeʻa was also born when the last disaster struck the world, and now, four years later, I found myself in a hauntingly familiar place. But this time, a deep, gut-wrenching twist settled in my soul.

Over the next few days, relief came as all family and friends were accounted for and safe, but Maui, the people, and the land would never be the same. In the weeks that followed, I became captivated by the rich history that ʻUlu shares with Lāhaina and I love how Hiʻiakawaiola is pointing to the Lau ʻUlu on photo 4. You see also, we had not given her a name in the hospital as we were waiting for her to tell us her name. When I was pregnant with her I had dreams of her wanting to be on Maui. When I held her in the weeks after her birth, I had dreams of her covered in ash trying to tell me something, something I was unable to see. Aloha Lā Hānau Hoʻokahi kaʻu kaikamāhine, heres to us always trying to play catch up to you 🥹✨

I hold onto the hope that I will one day see the ʻUlu forest restored to its rightful place, to its rightful people.

Mahalo to Pohai and Olu of for fostering this wonderful collaboration. While the design isn’t new, the updated color pays tribute to my home.

Did you catch a sneak peek of what we’re launching alongside this Friday to raise funds for Maui? Stay tuned...

all our aloha 💖

Lāʻīaola was inspired by the ti leaf plant known as Lā‘ī or Kī in Hawaiian. It is a versatile and culturally significant plant in Hawaiʻi. Recognizable by its long, glossy leaves, Lāʻī plants can grow up to 12 feet tall. Traditionally, leaves are used for a variety of purposes, including making hula skirts, leis, and as food wrappers for cooking. The lau lāʻī (leaf) is also believed to have protective and healing properties, often used in rituals and to ward off evil spirits. It is presented here in this artwork in the form of lei maile.

The last of Lāʻīaola is available online now. Mahalo nui to everyone who came out to the markets the last three weeks to shop our new drops!

Balance is a moment in time. A breath of simplicity. A rare occurrence these days with the beautiful, chaotic push and pull of new mom life. Energy, time, sleep; Where does it all go? We yearn for the simple and the balanced, but I wonder if we find it, do we again crave the chaos and distraction?

It is deeply rewarding to stop and stare at a cloud, notice a flower, a bug, the texture of the dirt and the sand. Our kids teach us every day if we take the time to step away from the distractions of life. They teach us by doing not be speaking, or texting, or typing. It is a true gift to be present within the language of nature. Slow and simple exists in the eyes of our children amidst the chaos of young emotions allowing us to reflect on our place in space. A grain of sand in the winds and waves. -Onepaʻa.

How do you weave moments of calm and connection into your days with your little ones? 🌊 ✨

This guy grows flowers in darkest parts of me and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Sunday was such a huge day for us and I’m so proud of how far we’ve come together ☀️🌻✨ We successfully made it to our final spring market (which was the 5th market on 3 different islands, in only 6 weeks and so so much more beyond just this small biz!) coordinated our first ever fashion show, and just about sold out of our brand new Lāʻīaola design 🥹✨ That magic had our hearts full and us on our toes the WHOLE time!

Here’s just a couple of my favorite behind the scenes pictures from 🌺🫶🏽

For those wondering about Lāʻīaola… We only have about one of each size left. Since it’s not enough to make the time to put them up online we will be posting this week the sizes and quantities we have available for offline purchases only. If you want to reserve yours ahead of time that’s fine too just DM me.

Mālama pono friends!

WE DID IT!! Our very first fashion show this past Sunday. Still trying to wrap my head around this day… I will find the words but for now I can only think about a quote I saw painted on the side of a building two days before this… “ALL GREAT CHANGES ARE PRECEDED BY CHAOS” ✨🎨

More to come but for now a HUGE MAHALO to ʻOhana Freitas words cannot describe the change you are making in the world, for Hawaiʻi 🔥

To for being my partner in crime in prioritizing creativity and passion 🫶🏽 when the hana is already soooo paʻa🌺

To our friends and family who jumped in last minute to leave their comfort zones and strut the runway all in the name of KŌKUA 🥹✨

And of course to our growing community of supporters and customers who show up every time to our markets and share words of encouragement straight our faces. Nothing could be more powerful in this dry digital age.

And to for capturing this HUGE moment for us on an already big day.

Just missing dādā and Paʻa on stage with me. Paʻa caught stage fright just moments before haha! 🥰

We also want to send the biggest hug to the mana māmā for inviting us into your wahi nehinei (way past her due date) to capture these kiʻi for us 🥹✨ and to for inviting us on air at on Thursday!!!

Aloha Lā Hōnua 🌏✨ this past month has been CRAZY for us! FIVE markets on THREE different islands with both kids in tow 😂 I wouldn’t change any of it. Earth-minded fashion is imperative to the health of our planet and ourselves. There is most certainly rewards with this journey but it also carries with it equally measured sacrifices.

Today we don’t have any specials or promos but we want you to know that behind the scenes we are working so hard to bring you something better, a better and brighter future for all of us. The climate crisis is here and there’s no getting around it.

We are working on alleviating our dependency on virgin oil products by shifting to 100% regeneration and rescue. In the coming months we will be breaking this down and sharing more about what this means and what it means for our planet.

Proud to stand with other woman-owned business like to bring responsible fashion to the forefront.

Me ke aloha

Celebrating this Saturday with a mini batch of these new onesies 🌏

Cotton is organic when it is grown naturally with much much fewer herbicides, pesticides and other harmful chemicals. These chemicals kill essential soil organisms, rendering soil dead. They then seep into the ground water and rain runoff, which kills life in fresh streams and in our oceans. It can also leak into our drinking water. Today, organic options are becoming widely available. Choose organic products for your health, the health of our children and our planet.

Plus it’s softer… come down to this Saturday and feel for yourself! Hiʻi seems to approve 🥹✨

Things at the shop have been slow lately as we adjust to life with 2 keiki. We knew we would have to slow down during my pregnancy and in the fourth trimester.

In early 2023, we started getting some genuine interest and opportunities for the brand. We were not ready. We did not want to get ahead of ourselves. We believe slow growth is strong growth. Deep roots withstand the storm. We want to do this right.

We decided it was best to build a solid foundation for Onepa’a Hawai’i. A foundation for the years ahead as we enter the next phase of this journey:

Behind the scenes, we have been on a mission searching the world over (with lots of help) to find the highest quality, responsibly produced, third-party certified recycled swim and beachwear products for you.

Products that contribute to the health of the planet and people. Products that last. The beauty of it all... it is not just our vision but many of you, who are here with us too. It is a shared purpose we all carry close to our hearts.

We are in this together and humbled by your support. Every purchase, gift, post, comment, and share contribute in ways that are often unseen.

It is hard to believe the reach this small brand has had in the past three years. Your support of our vision, mission, and designs have allowed us to realize this brand is worth it. Mahalo nui kākou.

Our spring market schedule is set!
ANNNND.... LOGO coming soon 😬
