Hartford residents have another opportunity tomorrow to get vaccinated and help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

There is another WALK-UP vaccination clinic Wednesday, April 7, 2 pm – 6:30 pm at the Free Center, 460 New Britain Avenue: NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY, and the clinic is for Hartford residents only – ages 18 and older. You should bring photo ID or mail with your Hartford address.

The clinic is expected to have 200 shot available so get to the clinic early to ensure your chance to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

It’s summertime! Many of Hartford’s parks and playscapes are open to families and children. When venturing outside for playtime or exercise, please remember to practice social distancing- give other families space and avoid crowded areas of the playground. Wear masks when necessary and wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, especially after outdoor play.

📖📚🤗 will roll out its next level of service - welcoming customers back to the Downtown Library – starting Monday, July 13!

"We look forward to welcoming the community back to the Downtown Library and extending pick up services at the branches. We will continue to assess service restoration and make adjustments as we go to provide the best service while responsibly observing health and safety protocols,” Quinn-Carey said.

The Downtown Library will be open beginning July 13 Monday through Thursday 9 am to 6 pm, and Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. Saturday service will be added from 9 am to 5 pm beginning August 3.

Services that will be available:
• One hour computer sessions
• Fax, copy and scanning
• Passports, notary public services and municipal IDs by appointment.
•. The American Place and the Hartford History Center by appointment.

All customers will be required to wear masks while in the building and must observe other safety protocols including social distancing and limited occupancy in elevators.

All customers will enter from Main Street and exit on Arch Street.

Only the first floor will be accessible for use.

Contact-free pick up service for materials will continue, along with the extensive offerings of online services and virtual programming.

Foodshare’s food distribution at Rentschler Field has been extended through the end of July.
Foodshare has been distributing food to the Greater Hartford community through a drive-thru distribution model for over the past two months at Rentschler Field, in East Hartford. At just this distribution alone, Foodshare has served over 75,000 households and has distributed over 2 million pounds of food. “We committed to keeping this operation running to help fill the increased need in the community as people continue to struggle financially due to the pandemic, we are happy to announce that we will continue this food distribution until the end of July,” said Jason Jakubowski, President and CEO of Foodshare.
Distribution dates: WEEKDAYS Wednesday, July 1 through Friday, July 31; 8:30 am – 12:00 pm;
CLOSED on July 3
Address: 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT 06118 – Silver Lane entrance; gates will close at Noon
One allocation of food per car to ensure that we have enough food for everyone.
This emergency distribution at Rentschler Field is in addition to Foodshare’s ongoing efforts to provide food to a network of over 200 pantries, community kitchens, and Mobile Foodshare sites throughout the region.
Community members unable to drive to East Hartford can access help through the following:
Mobile Foodshare an outdoor pantry-on-wheels, to find a site near you please text “FOODSHARE” to 85511 or go to www.foodshare.org/mobile.

Parking lots at City parks will open Friday, June 26

Playscapes at City parks will open Monday, June 29

Tennis courts at City parks will open Monday, June 29

Outdoor basketball courts will open Friday, July 3 (indoor basketball will remain closed)

Splash pads at City parks will be open Friday, July 3

All athletic fields will be open for organized play Monday, July 13

The MyRec reservation system will be reactivated Friday, June 26 at 9 AM.This is used to fields and submit required documentation.

***Pools will NOT OPEN this year. ***

There are several staffed summer programs as follows:

Supervised playground program at our splashpads from July 6 – August 21
Monday – Friday, 2 PM – 5 PM.

Summer camp program, open to up to 250 young people ages 8 to 12 July 13 to July 31, Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM.

Foodshare will continue to provide food to the Greater Hartford community through its drive-thru operation at Rentschler Field in East Hartford until the end of June. Foodshare has not seen a decline in the need and is now providing food to approximately 1500 households per day. “Even as the state begins its multi-phase reopening we know that the economic impact on families in this region will continue to be felt for a while,” said Jason Jakubowski, President and CEO of Foodshare. “We continue to be thankful to all of the volunteers and to Governor Lamont, Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz and the Capital Region Development Authority for allowing us to continue to use Rentschler Field.” Based on a recent survey, Foodshare estimates that approximately 70% of those served at the drive-thru food distribution are new to food insecurity. Because of the economic impact, 69% of households said they had to choose between paying for food and paying other bills during the past month. Jakubowski said “We hope the free food will reduce the need to make difficult tradeoff decisions.” Important information to share with the community:
