➡️This will be lengthy but I feel it is necessary for me to share. 𝐈’𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 & 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐰𝐡𝐲” 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭… ⬇️
I was recently inducted into the Sunrise Rotary Club of Indian River and am so excited to be a part of this amazing network and collective group of positive community members. Much of the work within the club revolves around working to better our world by taking a shared responsibility to take action on persistent issues and bettering the community. For those of you that know me, you know that supporting our community is near and dear to Jessica and I.
That being said, I saw a quote recently that stuck with me. It said, “Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds”
I have fought against overwhelming odds in many capacities.
You see, I’ve spent the majority of my life paying for mistakes I made in my young adult years. To note, I have never once hidden my past. That being said, for the last year, an old citrus fellow Tree Service competitor (and his old buddy/ prominent lawyer) have tried to bring me down in every way possible, including 3 lawsuits which were dismissed. It’s a shame, and quite disheartening that an individual can be so miserable that they would get joy from trying to destroy someone’s life and livelihood. To the extent at which they keep a folder of information with them and try to show it to anyone who will listen.
I can't help but think this was also resulted in me recently being removed from the Vero Beach Little League Board, asked to not continue coaching and to not participate in the last four tournament games, to protect “their image”. I've been involved in VBLL for about 4 years now and have donated time and money for the greater good of the program and to do something with my boys that I never had as a child. I was not able to know the details of who or what was said, but only that my “background” was brought to the attention of the league. I understand concern, but I'm 99% sure I know exactly where this came from. To be honest, my frustration is not about a “seat on the board” but more about how it was handled. I've never hidden my past and use it as a platform to help others know there is hope. I would have hoped that the Board would have acknowledged the concern but also shared all of the things I've done for the league and have done in the community. But, instead, the supposed complaint was kept a secret and I stood before the board and got voted off, and was told to “prove them wrong”. To which I ask, “what more do I need to prove?” I’ve made it my goal the last several years to be a better person than I was yesterday and continue to give back to the community here and I’ll continue to support our boys as they wish to continue playing baseball.
My father passed away when I was a young child and my mother later remarried. I never had a great relationship with my now, ex-stepfather growing up. I started getting in trouble as a teenager and into early adulthood. My background includes a lot of bad choices in my younger years, much of which were now 20 or so years ago. I spent time in jail and even prison. Studies on recidivism show that nearly 68% of offenders are likely to reoffend. Additionally, around 60% remain unemployed during the first year after being released and years following. Many of which, if they become employed, never make a decent living wage because the world is against them — for lack of better words. Opportunities are limited.
But why share this? Because I beat the statstics AND NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THIS! Other people can too. There is such a stigma and such negative talk about people who have been in trouble before and especially those with substance abuse issues. I told myself I wanted better. This period of my life was trying but I continued to keep moving one foot forward. Life continued to throw curveballs at me including when my left hand was cut 97% of the way off. I had numerous surgeries over a two year period BUT the doctor saved my hand! I could have easily given up at this point again but I didn’t.
If society doesn’t start looking past people’s backgrounds, how will people ever move forward? Do people realize how belittling and crushing it is to ALWAYS have something linger of your head despite the efforts you’ve done to prove people wrong and move forward? Here I sit, with an established and thriving business that donates to several local groups, with a wife and three children, just trying to make a positive impact in the community yet my past is continually brought up. Why is it that positives in my life, my business, or my contributions are not the topic of conversation for these people? Why must they focus on the negative? Society is so broken and so many pass judgement before even taking the time to ask questions to those at the forefront.
I’ll be real with everyone who made it this far in my post - it can be depressing. I hope that this serves as an example to those that might be struggling… to those that are searching for their “why” because once you overcome the odds and hurtles, life on the other side is pretty darn incredible. Your “why” becomes your motivation which is how I am still here and continuing to push forward.
I remember sitting in a service at Calvary Chapel a few years ago where Pastor Jim spoke about how each of us have a skill or an ability to help or do something meaningful in life. God puts us in places and situations to test & teach us. Don’t mistake a hard time as a failure, but look at it as an opportunity to grow.
If you read this to its entirety, thank you.

I look forward to supporting the Rotary’s mission in continuing to better our community for the greater good ‼️

Removal of 3 Severely Declining Oaks over the house, landscaping lighting, and paver driveway required every piece to be roped.
Should Vines be on Trees:
Creeping figs make a great ground and wall covering, but are best kept off the trees. They are very vigorous and can fill a tree with foliage to compete for light. Over time, the tree is likely to decline. Also, the thick fig stems and plentiful foliage could harbor pests and encourage rot problems. Fig fruits form on the mature portions, but they are hard and not edible.
Our crew spent several days removing these strangling figs from the canopy of 4 mature Live Oaks and pruning 43 mature Live Oaks. See our Before and After Pictures.

Another solid job completed today by Integrity Tree! Do you have Washingtonian Palms that need removed or replaced? What about Sylvester Palms that are dying due to lethal bronzing that seems to be taking over the county?! We also offer tree injections and maintenance programs. Here’s some pictures of us removing 60 foot Washingtonians and a Sylvester with an 18 in wide drop zone. Tedious but fun! Proud of our professional crew and happy to take care of your trees too! We offer fair pricing and free estimates. Give us a call today! 772-532-8097
It’s important to have your trees maintained annually and assessed by an Arborist. This client had a limb break off and crush their fence. We don’t look for removals rather than look for ways to preserve the trees. After having our team climb to prune the oaks and assess the trees further, all 3 large Laurel Oaks had termites in the lower trunk where the codominant leads met. Our team went above and beyond by removing and replacing pavers to remove an oak in the back and roping limbs over the roof and power lines. Call us today to have your trees assessed and properly pruned to ISA Standards. 772-532-8097
April storm Clean up! Now is the time to get Hurricane Season ready! Call us today for your tree assessments. Hope everyone is having a great Easter! So thankful for this day because our past sins were paid for. No matter what we should not let our past determine what our future is!
Here’s some tree knowledge to share with all!
Yeah, nothing like some tree knowledge on a Sunday morning! This is some basic info all arborists should know.
-The "outer bark" protects the tree from extreme temps, insects and fungi. Bark can vary from tree-to-tree. For example, bark on Birch trees is very thin, while the bark of Douglas fir's may be a foot thick!
-The phloem (the inner bark to some) transports carbohydrates, produced by photosynthesis and hydrolysis of reserve compounds, to sink tissues from growth, respiration and storage.
-The cambium cell layer is the growing part of the trunk. It annually produces new bark and new wood in response to hormones that pass down through the phloem with food from the leaves. These hormones, called "auxins", stimulate growth in cells. Auxins are produced by leaf buds at the ends of branches as soon as they start growing in spring.
-Sapwood, outer, living layers of the secondary wood of trees, which engage in transport of water and minerals to the crown of the tree. These cells contain more water and lack the deposits of darkly stained chemical substances commonly found in heartwood.
-Xylem is the plant's vascular tissue that conveys water and dissolved minerals from roots to the rest of the plant and also provides physical support. It also consists of a variety of specialized water-conducting cells known as treachery elements.
-Heartwood (dead) is the central wood of trees. It is mechanically strong, resistant to decay, and less easily penetrated by wood-preservative chemicals than other type of wood.
Removal of 7 Oaks over the home. All limbs had to be safely roped by our experienced climbers/ pruners.
A very happy client needed her Oaks pruned for insurance and more sunlight. Removal of a couple leaning Oak trees, canopy reduction, and removal of deadwood, cross branches, and water sprouts. Installed 11 Pallets of Palmetto St. Augustine. Reds Equipment Rental & Transport delivered the sod.
