A Herniated Disk occurs when either part or all the disk is pushed through a frail part of the spine. It often occurs because of a progressive, most of the time age related, tear called disk degeneration. As we age, our disks become less malleable gradually, which makes it easier to tear. In most cases it occurs in the lower back, but it can happen in any part of the spine.

Some may experience no symptoms, but many experience:
1. Pain in the leg, back, foot, and arm
2. Muscle spasms or weakness
3. Foot, leg, and hand numbness
4. Extremely uncomfortable tingling and burning.

For 9 out of 10 people, chiropractic care has been shown to be an excellent, non-surgical way of treating Herniated Disks. If left untreated, it may cause intense, sharp pains or partial paralysis. In addition, over time it can get worse and cause the development of Cauda Equina Syndrome. Cauda Equina Syndrome transpires when the nerve roots in the lumbar spine compact, causing dysfunction in those roots, which then cuts off sensation and movement.

For assistance on alternative and holistic ways to treat a Herniated Disk, please reach out to Dr. Vibert at 561-249-1860 to schedule a consultation. If you know anyone suffering from pain due to a Herniated Disk, please share our information and recommend us.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome develops when the median nerve, which is one of the major nerves in the hand, is compacted as it navigates through the wrist. This can occur because of bone or joint disease, such as arthritis, or metabolic and hormonal changes, such as pregnancy.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include:
1. Sensations of tingling
2. Aching
3. Burning
4. Numbness
5. Weakness in the hand

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome tends to get worse overtime. If left untreated for an extended period of time, it may lead to a loss of sensation in the fingers and in some cases permanent dysfunction of the hand.

For assistance on alternative and holistic ways to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, please reach out to Dr. Vibert at 561-249-1860 to schedule a consultation. If know anyone suffering from pain due to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, please share our information and recommend us.

April is Stress Awareness Month and at SelfCare Chiropractic we want to give you some effective ways to deal with stress in your body:

1. Exercise: Physical activity is a great way to reduce stress levels. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural chemicals that can improve your mood and reduce stress.

2. Relaxation techniques: There are several relaxation techniques you can try, including deep breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, and progressive muscle relaxation. These techniques can help reduce muscle tension, slow down your heart rate, and calm your mind.

3. Get enough sleep: Getting adequate sleep is essential for managing stress. Lack of sleep can make you feel more irritable, anxious, and stressed out. Try to establish a consistent sleep routine and avoid caffeine or electronics before bedtime.

4. Eat a healthy diet: A balanced diet can help you manage stress. Avoid junk food and eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, can also help reduce stress.

5. Practice self-care: Make time for yourself each day to do something you enjoy, such as reading a book, taking a bath, or watching a movie. This can help you recharge and reduce stress levels.

6. Seek support: Talk to a friend or family member about what's stressing you out. Sometimes just talking about your worries can help you feel better. If you're feeling overwhelmed, consider talking to a mental health professional.

Remember, everyone copes with stress differently, so find what works best for you. If you're struggling to manage stress on your own, don't hesitate to seek help from a healthcare professional.

Water is ESSENTIAL to your health and staying properly hydrated is something that many of us tend to slack on. Check out some of our tips below on how you can drink more water throughout the day.

1. Keep a water bottle with you at all times: Having a water bottle with you throughout the day will remind you to drink water and make it more accessible.

2. Set reminders: Set reminders on your phone or computer to remind you to drink water every hour or so.

3. Add flavor to your water: If you find plain water boring, try adding fresh fruit or herbs such as lemon, mint, or cucumber to give your water some flavor.

4. Drink water before meals: Drinking a glass of water before meals can help you feel fuller and reduce the amount of food you eat.

5. Make it a habit: Try to make drinking water a habit by drinking water at the same times every day, such as when you wake up, before meals, and before bed.

Happy hydrating!
