A Herniated Disk occurs when either part or all the disk is pushed through a frail part of the spine. It often occurs because of a progressive, most of the time age related, tear called disk degeneration. As we age, our disks become less malleable gradually, which makes it easier to tear. In most cases it occurs in the lower back, but it can happen in any part of the spine.
Some may experience no symptoms, but many experience:
1. Pain in the leg, back, foot, and arm
2. Muscle spasms or weakness
3. Foot, leg, and hand numbness
4. Extremely uncomfortable tingling and burning.
For 9 out of 10 people, chiropractic care has been shown to be an excellent, non-surgical way of treating Herniated Disks. If left untreated, it may cause intense, sharp pains or partial paralysis. In addition, over time it can get worse and cause the development of Cauda Equina Syndrome.
