Staff from the Prematurity Prevention Initiative was proud to welcome New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy to the Cooperative’s Camden office during Black Maternal Health Week.

Mrs. Murphy discussed legislative achievements and important initiatives that address health equity in an effort to improve maternal and infant health outcomes, including the establishment of the Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Center in Trenton.

The Center is a critical component of First Lady Murphy’s Nurture NJ Maternal and Infant Health Strategic Plan which aims to make New Jersey the safest and most equitable state in the nation to deliver and raise a baby.

We extend our gratitude to the First Lady for her staunch support and advocacy!

Rasheeda is a birthing person in New Jersey who received 17P during her second pregnancy after experiencing an early birth (delivering your baby before 37 weeks) with her first pregnancy. 17P can be discussed with your healthcare provider to see if it is right for you. The Prematurity Prevention Initiative has funding available for 17P. In some cases, PPI can supply funding for in-home nurse visitors to provide weekly injections. #FBF #FlashbackFriday This Spring, PPI Health Educators have attended baby showers, expos, fairs, and more. In May, the PPI Health Education Specialist Da-sha Warren participated in a Community Baby Shower event celebrating expecting and new parents at the Ironbound Community Corporation in Newark New Jersey. During the event, the PPI Health Education Specialist shared materials about the initiative with expecting mothers on ways in which they can reduce their risk of experiencing a preterm birth during their pregnancy. PPI Health Coordinator, Kaci Mial participated in this week's Community Grab N’ Go Family Day where over 50 parents were able to pick out free baby clothes, items, and educational resources.
