Quick info about Linear Phase EQs! 🔥

The linear phase eq is all about maintain phase coherency on intense cuts. 😎
The low end especially is susceptible to phase issues during EQing.
So if your ever needing to make cray changes to the low end, try using a liner phase EQ to help avoid any unwanted issues. 🚨

EQ TIPS: ADDITIVE V.S SUBTRACTIVE 🔥

Using an EQ felt like a superpower I was unable to control when I first started producing, simply because I was unaware of just how important they are.

Now after 10 years I can say that EQ is the single most powerful tool a producer/mix engineer can possibly use.

So listen close, here's my most direct advice!!!

Subtractive is the Key 🔑 to a clean mix
Additive is the Key 🔑 to a loud mix
Small changes are (1db changes) have massive impact to a clean mix
Large changes (6db up) can be useful in some extreme situations
Get really comfortable with your MAIN EQ first

Compression release was always something I set and forget in the beginning. Wow was that a mistake!

Because compression is CRUCIAL to understand for pro-level mixes. Read the slides a few time to help grasp the nuances of release! 😁

In particular, how TIMING the release to the tracks BPM help create so much bounce and energy, just for doing a TINY bit of math!

SPLICE!!! Do I need to say more?

Splice has been a game changer the last 5 years or so and has helped shape how creative producers and artists can be. Big love for them 🔥

COMPRESSION ATTACK EXPLAINED!

Compression is CRUCIAL for getting a pro-level sound. Plain and simple. But it's a hard concept to grasp and even harder to hear sometimes 😅

Attack itself is very important for PEAK CONTROL, SHAPING PUNCHINESS, and INCREASING CLARITY. How is the hard part to answer as it's completely dependent on the source material 🔑

BUT to put it simply, attack correlates directly to transients. A Hi-hat is very transient, and might be eating up headroom. A faster attack will help prevent this 😎

Attack correlated to the groove could help let through bounce of a kick on the drum buss.

Or a medium attack on the vocal helps diction stay clear while balancing the remaining vocal phrase.

Loops are a HOT topic, no doubt there 😅

As a producer, It's important to be original AND appealing. Because of this, it's easy to sway TOO far on either side of the loops battle 🚨

Here's my take, use loops to add texture and tension to a well-written song OR to get some ideas flowing 🔑

I'll use between 1 - 5 different loops in almost every track I produce. Usually drum loops. And it ALWAYS adds a special layer of excitement and appeal to the song without sounding out of place 🔥
