Estimados CERT
✨
Con todo este 2023.
Congratulations to our very own CERT team member, Gabriel! Receiving the Lilly Endowment Scholarship is a great honor and we couldn’t think of a better recipient.
Thank you to Michael White from Indiana Department of Homeland Security/State Fire Marshal Office for showing our CERT team some of the state’s drone capabilities. We plan to expand our team to include a drone program in the future. This will help us in a variety of public safety and emergency response purposes.
There is still time to get registered for our free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. If you plan to attend, please fill out the form below so that we can send you additional information on the training. Only three weeks until the class begins. We are excited to meet all of you!

Congratulations to our CERT member, Lavanna Perdue, on her promotion to Transportation Director for South Montgomery Community School Corporation. Lavanna is a great asset to our CERT team and we know she will achieve wonderful things in her new position.
Last night we had our annual pitch-in dinner and awards banquet. We would like to take a second and congratulate our award recipients again.
Sandra Castilla (left) is our recipient of the David Kadinger Service Award for 2021. The David Kadinger Award goes to an individual within the CERT program that has made the biggest sacrifice for the team. Sandra has volunteered multiple years at multiple events, including health fairs, multiple Canoe Races, standing out in inclement weather at the drive-through COVID testing site on many occasions, and when a bilingual interpreter was needed at the COVID clinic at Save-A-Lot, she stepped up with her skillset fulfilling the FEMA term “Whole Community” approach. Sandra is a great communicator and problem solver.
Kelly White (middle) was awarded the CERT Special Recognition Award. She deserves a special recognition award based on Life Safety, and the use of her medical skillset with tourniquets. Because of her quick thinking, she was able to save the life of a Montgomery County man that hit a guardrail on a 4-wheeler that resulted in an amputation of his leg. Had Kelly not been close, the victim of the wreck would have lost his life. Although this volunteer was not acting as a CERT member and used learned skills well beyond the 21-hour CERT training curriculum, we still feel the need to make sure she is honored for her bravery and saving the life of another person.
Carla Frazier (right) received the Ralph G. Hardwick Volunteer of the Year Award. She is a volunteer that has shown activity consistently throughout her time while on CERT. Her skill set has made our team more vibrant in preparedness, she puts in a lot of time on her own personal preparedness and that spills over into what she teaches us. She is also a forward-thinking individual, from which we benefit greatly. Her activity and involvement in CERT are appreciated and we look forward to her leadership skills and what she will bring to the table in the future.
Congratulation to all three of these ladies!

A big huge shout out to a couple of our CERT members. They braved the heat and the rain to help out the police, EMTs and firefighters today while battling the fire out on St Rd 47. They helped everyone stay hydrated and assisted with traffic control while the road was closed. Thanks Jerry & Shari!! You guys rock!

Information about the tornado sirens that you could have heard this evening. Even though we were not placed under a tornado warning, precautions were put in place by the EMA after the possible rotation spotting by a county officer. Thank you EMA for making us more aware of the possible severe weather!
