From July 15th to September 30th, we are offering Quarter 3 financial assistance program grants of $300. These grants are designed to support families in need during their breast cancer journey, providing crucial help during challenging times.

🎉 The 2nd Annual Lace Up and Race 5K is quickly approaching! 🎉

We will run/walk together on Saturday, October 19th, in beautiful Santa Fe, NM, or you can join us virtually from wherever you are! This event is all about unity, support, and making a difference together. Every step we take helps to support and inspire those affected by breast cancer.

As we continue to navigate our breast cancer survivorship journeys, advancements in medical technology offer new avenues for monitoring and ensuring our well-being. One such innovation is the **Signatera Test** by Natera, a personalized diagnostic tool designed to help patients and their doctors make well-informed decisions regarding treatment options.

The Signatera Test stands out due to its unique personalization for each patient's tumor mutation signature. For example, Dr. Bean's , founder and president, oncologist, uses this test to monitor her blood for any signs of cancer recurrence, allowing for timely and informed decisions about adjuvant treatments. This process involves creating a custom test for each patient by utilizing tumor tissue obtained from surgery.

Monitoring through the Signatera Test provides valuable insights, ensuring that both patients and healthcare providers can stay a step ahead in managing and potentially preventing cancer recurrence.

Cynthia Smalls, a breast cancer survivor since 2016, emphasizes the critical importance of self-care when battling breast cancer. Reflecting on her journey, she shares, "From the moment of my diagnosis, I was so focused on fighting that I initially forgot to be gentle with myself."

Cynthia recalls attempting to maintain her regular routines despite the drastic changes that her life was undergoing. "I had to admit I was weak and tired, and that was ok," she says. Acceptance was a turning point for her. "Accepting help was key to resting for the fight of my life."

She underscores that acknowledging one's limitations and seeking support can profoundly impact the healing process. Her major takeaway for anyone facing a similar battle is: "Accept help and adjust with care in how you treat yourself. If you are tired, rest. The undone laundry, uncooked dinner, or unmade bed will be ok—someone else can do it."

Cynthia’s message serves as a poignant reminder that self-compassion and support from others are not just beneficial; they are essential components of the journey through cancer treatment and recovery.

National Cancer Survivors Day is a special occasion to honor the formidable strength resilience of those who have faced cancer. It's a day to acknowledge not just the battle but also the ongoing journey that continues even after treatments conclude. Survivors illustrate the power of human spirit and perseverance, and their stories serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others still fighting this formidable disease.

Life After Breast Cancer


Quote- Lymphedema was temporary and it meant I survived!


After fighting breast cancer Cynthia breathed a sigh of relief until lymphedema set into her right arm. Lymphedema is swelling that occurs in one's extremities. The swelling was detected by her doctor, and she was off to a lymphedema specialist for treatment. The treatment she had included learning how to massage her lymph glands to move the excess fluid to other parts of the body and wrapping her arm. The wrapping was not painful but extremely uncomfortable and effective. After completing 6 weeks of treatment Cynthia’s arm was back to its original size. Her follow-up continues to be the massage of the lymph glands weekly, so no fluid accumulates. A small price to pay for survivorship.
