I think every month we should celebrate women. This month is coming to a close. Let us not forget about the women who paved the way for us to be in the positions we are today. Let us also not forget to continue to pave the way for our daughters, nieces, grand daughters and all the young women who will carry forward the courage to speak and be heard.

When Harriet Tubman was asked how she could go back to rescue slaves with such a tremendous price on her head, she would always respond with the above quote. Her family and friends would beg her not to put herself at risk again and again, but her courageous faith in God to direct and protect her, pushed her forward. She knew everything in her world was against her as a slave and as a woman, but she believed in God's timing and never doubted how near He was to her. Harriet Tubman put her complete trust in the Lord, and He equipped her to become one of the most iconic women in our history.

Can you imagine what this world be like today had she not stepped into her divine design? Can you imagine what this world would be like if you and I DID step into our divine design? Today, on the 108th anniversary of her death, we honor the bravery and boldness of Harriet Tubman to help others Flourish!

Self-Care Is Not An Indulgence. It's A Discipline. – Path Forward 12/10/2020

SELF CARE WEEK! Here on this page this week, we celebrate self care. I spent last week beating myself up about so many things. I found myself in the emergency room with pain in my back. It turns out I'm healthy and good but what a scare. We MUST not let the reaction to what is happening around us stress us out. Although I would tell you I did not feel stressed, as I reflected back on the week I realized I was suppressing it and not taking care of my spiritual and emotional self. Illness and pain can sometimes manifest itself when self care is not a priority. So this week. Let's be extra diligent in recognizing our bodies needs, in feeling the emotions and allowing them to pass through and in rising up to our highest selves. Love you!

Self-Care Is Not An Indulgence. It's A Discipline. – Path Forward Author’s Note: I wrote this column for Forbes back at the end of 2017. At first it didn’t get much traffic and I wasn’t totally surprised. I didn’t expect it to be a popular message. But somewhere along the way it got shared and it has just exploded. It is my most popular Forbes column and h...

There are many women who inspire me! So grateful for them.

Memories of pre-COVID-19 good times at the Y! Sometimes we are full of worry and we are anxious about the future. When that happens to me I will look at my memories I've captured. We've enjoyed many good times in our work. Focus on those memories as you navigate through the coming months to the end of 2020. There will be many, many more good times, because you create your future. You create your pathway. Focus on what you want to happen and not on what you do not want to happen. Every day can be a gift to start fresh with the anticipation of the next big adventure. So very grateful for the awesome memories I've made and even more excited about the awesome memories I will be making in the days to come.

Another woman who inspires:

Who: Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Why she inspires us: Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and co-founder of the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union, Bader Ginsburg is our legal idol (sorry Elle Woods).
What she taught us: Through her various verdicts, supporting women’s rights, LGBT causes and racial equality, she proved that she deserves the affectionate moniker of the Notorious R.B.G.
