We long for the day when the lockdown is over and the children at the CFS in Palorinya Settlement can return to see their new water tankđź’§
COHRP was just about to start funding the building of two new classrooms for this remarkable School of Peace on the island of Le**os. This week the school was burned to the ground by those protesting the ever growing presence of refugees on the island. Our hearts are with the children, families and teachers in the School of Peace community. We will be doing all we can to support the rebuilding of the school.
Feeling the midweek hump? Cheer yourself up in just a few minutes with this massively joyful video of the opening of the Child Friendly Space in Palorinya settlement, Uganda, featuring our very own Cheryl Harmon!
The space, opened by COHRP and IsraAID provides a nurturing place for refugee and host community children to play and learn in safety.
A Safe Space for Children in Palorinya, Uganda In October 2019, IsraAID and COHRP opened a new safe space for refugee and host community children in Iboa village, Palorinya.
A terrifying and dire situation unfolding in Le**os:
Last week the region’s most senior official likened the situation on Le**os to a “powder keg ready to explode”. Kostas Moutzouris, governor of the north Aegean, said: “It’s crucial that a state of emergency is called.”
UN calls for urgent evacuation of Le**os refugee camp Doctor warns of pandemic risk due to lack of healthcare in Greek camp
The opening ceremony for the CFS in the Palorinya settlement was a wonderful whole community celebration. There was singing, dancing, a powerful poetry recital and many speeches. The day was joyful but at times also sobering. A poem was read by a 14 year old girl and she had chosen one entitled 'Defilement' which spoke about sexual abuse in the community.
The new centre is a much needed place of safety where we hope that children can find the space and protection to let go of anxieties and engage in fun, learning and positive relationships.

Here are the new Child Friendly Space facilitators upon completion of their training in an Introduction to Child Protection and CFS Management. They are now welcoming and working with hundreds of children who started using the new centre last month.
At the end of November, our administrative manager Cheryl Harmon attended the opening of the new Child Friendly Space (CFS) in Northern Uganda. Funded by COHRP and set up by IsraAID, the centre will provide a warm and welcoming place for hundreds of children to engage in arts, sports and other fun and educational activities.
It was a very special few days with an amazing and very well-attended opening ceremony and we will be sharing highlights here over the coming weeks.

“Being in a refugee camp for seven years, I lost my self-esteem and self-confidence of achieving anything in my life”
Justin’s story is an incredible testament to his drive and commitment. His words remind us of COHRP’s commitment to helping to provide an education to child refugees, children who have lost so much and deserve their right to a promising future.
Justin achieves his nursing dream in Hull after seven years in a refugee camp He spent seven years in a refugee camp, watching the sick and dying suffer in a camp with little access to nursing or medical help. Justin Mwange fled to Zambia from the war-torn Democratic Republic…

Our COHP School is now serving 65 of Haiti’s poorest children, ages 10 to 15. With our 9th academic year ending in June, 2019, the primary focus of this report is on the progress, curriculum and issues facing our eighth and ninth grade students.
The Journey from COHP to COHRP. COHRP is worldwide.
On January 12, 2010, a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti just south of the capital of Port-au-Prince and left over 2 million people displaced. In the following weeks, we watched with horror as the situation worsened in Haiti; and we felt compelled to act. Being educators, our inclination was to establish a non-profit organization that would offer a K-12 educational program with nutritional and health care support. The original participants came from a sprawling tent camp of 5,000 displaced persons next to which we located the initial school.
Within months, we mobilized the school in Port-Au -Prince using contributions from international schools, interested individuals and corporations from around the world. In May of 2010, the Children Of Haiti Project (COHP) opened its doors to 50 children ages 4,5 and 6 in dire need of an education and a safe and clean sanctuary in the midst of a devastated city.
Today, we are COHRP (formerly COHP), and we have expanded our activities to address the educational and nutritional needs of migrant and refugee children worldwide. COHRP is funded by a variety of international organizations, interested individuals and its own funds earned in its other programs.
We welcome your interest, your contribution and your commitment!
