Happy 4th of July 2024!
Celebrating 248 years of democracy!
Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
Today, I’m enjoying a beautiful morning with a cup of coffee. Alongside, I have a delicious peach that’s homegrown right here in South Carolina and a sweet Mantecada muffin from a local small business, freshly baked at four in the morning.
Did you know? South Carolina produces the most peaches of any state in the South. Georgia may call itself “The Peach State” but we know better.
According to South Carolina Department of Agriculture statistics, the Palmetto State ships approximately 90,000 tons of peaches each year.
A little background on the Mantecada muffin: the name “Mantecada” means “with manteca,” where the Spanish word “manteca” can refer to any solid fat, like lard, shortening, or even butter. In Spain, it’s called “manteca,” while in Mexico, it’s known as “mantequilla.”
Wishing you all a wonderful and patriotic Fourth of July filled with local flavors and festive moments!

Know the Correct Way to Fly the Flag
With Flag Day on June 14 and Independence Day in July, summertime is a popular time to display the United States flag. Here are some simple rules to follow to make sure your flag displays are correct according to the Flag Code (Public Law 94-344):
1. Raising and Lowering the Flag
- Raise the flag quickly.
- Lower it slowly and respectfully.
2. Displaying the Flag
- The flag should be displayed from sunrise to sunset.
- If displayed at night, the flag should be properly illuminated.
3. Positioning the Flag
- The flag should always be at the top of the staff, unless it is being flown at half-staff to honor someone who has died.
- When displayed with other flags, the U.S. flag should be at the center and the highest point.
4. Respecting the Flag
- The flag should not touch the ground.
- The flag should not be used as clothing, bedding, or drapery.
By following these simple guidelines, you can show respect for the flag and what it represents.

Our town faced a tragedy as one of the Oconee County Sheriffs deputies was involved in a shooting yesterday afternoon. We ask everyone to pray for this officer, his family, and the community we all call home. We are witnessing God working and moving not only in his life but the lives of the people around him as well. We believe there is power in prayer so will you join us?
