Centralia Fire Protection District
Centralia Fire Protection District is looking for qualified applicants for Volunteer/Paid on call Fi
Volunteer/Paid on call Department of 27 members protecting approximately 92 sq miles. The Department was formed in 1954 and has proudly served the people of our District and the Village of Central City and City of Wamac and Walnut Hill. We strive to provide the best service available by a dedicated well trained group of Professional Volunteers.
With the balloon fest next weekend, we had the opportunity to go over the different safety steps with hot air balloons. Here at the district we are fortunate enough to have one of our own Eric Smith a licensed pilot.
Please remember when chasing balloons next weekend to make room for the balloon crews and all first responders.
We want to give a huge congratulations to our SCBA Challenge competitors tonight. Firefighter Austin Smith came out on top with a time to don his SCBA of 31 seconds.
2nd place was Lt. Billy Baird.
Firefighter Clint Knox hands over the trophy he has held since December. Great work to all our people tonight. Thank you for all you do.
The area has received several inches of rain. Most side and country roads are flooded and will continue to flood as the rain continues. Please do not drive through flooded areas. Brick Hill road is already completely impassable as well as spots on Bell Club and other secondary roads that normally do not flood.
Please TURN AROUND AND DONT DROWN!!!!!
Special Thanks to Buchheit of Centralia for the donation of water that was split with our friends from City of Centralia Fire Department. The local partnerships we have allows us to operate at the highest level for everyone’s protection. Thanks for the support
Our usual PSA to please not drive through standing water. Especially Lagoon Road/ Brick Hill road. Water is already over the roadway and our power ring eating friends in law enforcement have put caution tape up to try and warn the motoring public. Please TURN AROUND and Don't drive through any water no matter the depth.
Stay safe and thank you for attending our safety talk.
Our prayers are with the family and all those
affected.
It is with great sadness that I announce that Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Matthew Tobben died this morning during a swift water rescue operation.
Assistant Chief Matt Tobben was assisting the Columbia Fire Department during a swift water rescue operation at Rangeline Street and Bear Creek early this morning. The firefighters had rescued two individuals when the zodiac boat overturned and Chief Tobben was thrown from the boat and drowned. The Columbia Firefighter and the two victims originally rescued were able to be rescued and are doing ok.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
Scott Olsen, Fire Chief
Boone County Fire Protection District
Excellent teamwork by all MABAS departments yesterday.

Green St Road travelers BE AWARE AT&T and Central City crews will be out on Green St from Brewery Hill Road to Brick Hill Road cutting trees down off the communication lines. ESDA will be assisting. SLOW DOWN PUT YOUR PHONES DOWN AND BE AWARE. This is already a very dangerous section. Let’s make sure all crews go home safe. Police will also be observing this area.
