And just like that my first comes to an end! The most I’ve ever done for a craft fair (peep the naturally dyed button downs 👀) and was so proud of how it all turned out. Will be my last craft fair for some time! Excited to take the time to rest, reflect, and do some more creating. 💕👩🏽‍🎨

First fair in the books! 📚 I remember attending my first ever renegade back in Chicago during their summer street market. Back when I was in the beginning of my first corporate job out of college. Not knowing that this kind of world existed, and that one day I’d be a part of it! 🥰 Now having been on this journey full time for over six months now, it warms my heart to now have friends in the small biz community, people who recognize me from previous events and say hi, and seeing the power of South Asian artist representation first hand. Bringing it all full circle for Renegade Chicago December 16-17!!! See y’all there 😉

We launched our Bandhani kits almost a year ago and we’ve learned so much since then! 💪The kits have gone through many changes, and we’re prouder than ever with the experience they now provide. 3 beautiful color options, 🌺 enough materials for 5-10 projects, a scoured/mordanted garment that’s completely ready to dye with, special South Asian tie dye tools, and so much more! … or whatever else you think is relevant

There have been some new folks who have joined me on this journey so I thought I should reintroduce myself 👋

As a South Asian American artist, 👩🏽‍🎨I’ve always looked for ways to honor South Asian craft in my everyday life. During the pandemic, with everything going on I started my journey into exploring my own art and culture. I discovered the world of craft tourism, and attended a craft workshop led by in Oaxaca once travel opened up. It prompted me to learn more about my own heritage’s ancestral craft, and started connecting with craft organizations in India.

Pretty soon I was on another flight to India, ✈️ and visited farmers and craft organizations to study South Asian textiles from seed to sew. Getting to experience the craft first hand gave me so much appreciation for the skill required. After this trip, I wanted to find a way to uplift South Asian art, but traveling to India is not easy or cheap. As a first-gen kid whose Hindi skills are pretty rough, 🥲 even I had to rely on family in order to visit. Hence the idea of the Bandhani craft kit—a way to experience South Asian textile craft within the comfort of your own home. 🏡

I partner with artists to make my kits, so that they authentically reflect the craft I’m representing. I find that in today’s art/crafts industry there is almost no conversation around cultural craft origins. South Asian textiles 🥻and craft have huge influences on western craft and apparel, but without any credit. A sad byproduct of the exploitative nature of the fashion industry and colonization in South Asia. My craft kits are a fun way to combat that issue, getting to experience a new craft and while appreciating modern textiles in a new light. 💡

My high school history teacher told me I was too verbose, and tbh not much has changed lmao. 😂 TLDR; This biz is my passion project turned full-time gig and I can’t wait to grow it and see how it continues to bloom. 🌺 I have a long way to go, but follow along for my textile education content with songs playing in the background. 🎉😌

Had a blast at this weekend! 🎉🎉🎉 Grinded the past two weeks to restock, plan out a new activation and set up, and running around the bay trying to pull all of it together. 😅 The enthusiasm, businesses, and beautiful projects certainly made it all worth it. Always learning, but happy with where I’ve come from thus far.

One of the most rewarding parts of this gig has been the craft workshops. 💕Seeing how groups of people can come together and bond through art is truly so wholesome. 🎨 I’ve wanted to find ways to bring this kind of experience to more people, which led to our party kits! I’ve been trialing a that contains everything you need to throw a South Asian Dye Party on your own. With the help of , our very first Hamesha Craft Party was held in NYC. Without me even there 🥹. I want to make these experience better and better. So if you want to host your own craft party DM me and I can give you a discount code! We can partner on this as receiving feedback is still super important to me. Hoping these party kits give more opportunities to share and celebrate South Asian culture. 🎉

Had such a lovely and intimate craft workshop 🎨🖌️at the space in the Mission! Was extremely rewarding to see the joy that came from learning about a new culture, connecting through craft, and creating a beautiful Bandhani tote bag.
