Our friends at Reliant Energy have some tips for reducing your carbon footprint this summer: follow the 4-by-4 rule: if no one is going to be home for more than 4 hours, set the temperature 4 degrees higher while you’re gone. It will make a bigger impact than you think!

Want to make an even bigger impact? Sign up for the Reliant EcoShare (SM) program! In partnership with EarthShare Texas since 2011, you’ll be supporting more than 30 environmental organizations in Texas and offsetting your carbon emissions so Texas summers can stay as beautiful as ever.

Thanks to you, we raised over $5,700 for Ecology Action during Amplify Austin Day! That was 82% of our $7,000 goal, and an increase over last year. Don't forget that the Amplify portal is still open, and donations can be made at the link below until it closes in a few weeks. Thanks again to everyone who participated in this campaign. Your generosity helps us keep Circle Acres open and free to the public! Now get outside and take a walk at the preserve! ❤

With only a little only more than two hours left of Amplify Austin, we still have 24% of our goal left to reach! We know that a lot of people wait until the last minute (sometimes we do too), but it sure would be great to see that percentage shrink before 5 PM! Please consider making your donation sooner rather than later -- we appreciate your support!

Amplify Austin is almost here…

is TOMORROW! At 6pm on Wednesday, March 6th, the campaign will officially kick off for 24-hours of giving.

Now is a great time to:

1. Visit AmplifyATX.org and decide which nonprofit(s) you’ll be supporting. There are 730 nonprofits across 19 cause categories and 7 counties participating this year. You can give to up to 10 nonprofits in every transaction, so spread the love if you can.

2. Ask your employer if they are participating as a Business Fundraiser or matching donations.

3. Make sure your friends, family, and neighbors know to give back for Amplify Austin Day too. This is an entire community effort. So the more the merrier!

It's Giving Tuesday!

Ecology Action not only operates a nature preserve that's free and open to the public daily, we also give back to the community in many other ways! In nearby Roy G. Guerrero Park, we maintain trails and continue to restore areas with native plants and trees. This year, in addition to our summer camp, we started the Montopolis Youth Nature Club, which offers fun and educational outdoor activities to neighborhood kids. We also partner with other groups to do research and make positive environmental change. You can help us continue our work by choosing to support us on this Giving Tuesday! Sustaining donors are especially needed, but all donations are welcome: https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/ecology-action THANK YOU!

Our Story

At Ecology Action of Texas, our mission is to protect, reclaim, and connect communities to neglected or damaged remnants of the urban wilderness. EA accelerates ecosystem recovery through biodiversity enhancement, water quality improvements, and regenerative land stewardship.

Ecology Action has been at the forefront of waste diversion and conservation efforts since it's founding in 1969, from creating Austin's first recycling program, to our current work of recycling the landfill itself! In 2015 we closed our downtown recycling center to focus our efforts at Circle Acres, where we are transforming a former landfill into a nature preserve to be enjoyed by all. Through tours, events, volunteer days, summer camps, and field trips, we engage our community in landfill diversion and remediation, towards a vision of a zero waste world.

We are a community supported organization and each year our membership base of over 7,000 local residents contribute a significant portion of our operating expenses.

Our guiding principles emphasize a consideration of the social and environmental consequences of every decision that we make.
