Construction will soon begin on a series of barriers in an Illinois River that are designed to keep invasive carp from reaching the Great Lakes. The $1.1 billion project is a race against time, as some of the menacing carp have been found just nine miles from Lake Michigan.

Small steps lead to big opportunities, and this past year has demonstrated that without a doubt. 2022-23 was a landmark academic year for Michigan's Children’s Savings Account (CSA) field! CEDAM's MI CSA Network experienced the launch of two State-funded programs, expanded enrollment to 43,814 students statewide, and increased private participation to 40% (a record high!). Our most recent publication, The Michigan Children's Savings Account Network: An Anthology of Program Successes, captures the 2022-23 stories of programs across the state, their initiatives, innovative events, and creative strategies that directly engage with students and families, motivating and inspiring dreams. More than 70 Genesee County area high school students furthered their entrepreneurship skills by participating in an Ideation Crash Course event at the Genesee Career Institute recently. The students used their imagination, creativity and innovation to come up with wacky inventions like thermal visors that warm your face and smell like tea. They also did a marketing challenge and helped a Saginaw-area shoe decorating business form ideas on how to increase revenue. The Youth Entrepreneurship event is supported by the Mott Foundation.
