🧟‍♂️🧙🏽‍♀️Sally Rippin (Author of the Billie B Brown, Hey Jack, and Billie B Mysteries series) does it again! This time a series for older kids. She describes Polly and Buster for kids who are done with the Billie B Mysteries Series but who aren’t quite ready for Harry Potter.
🧟‍♂️🧙🏽‍♀️Meet Polly a young witch who can never get her spells just right (she’s always turning something into a toad instead of a potion), but who has a HUGE heart. Buster is the monster next door who wears his emotions on his sleeve (literally- turning colors and expanding and shrinking based on what he feels). These two are best friends despite a growing discontent among Witches and Monsters about being friends with one another.
🧟‍♂️🧙🏽‍♀️There are amazing themes throughout the series that keep readers engaged and dying to find out what happens next. (Cue the 💦 waterworks for this mama!) The themes include standing up for friends when it’s unpopular, discrimination, overcoming fears, stepping into who you were made to be, and community involvement.
🧟‍♂️🧙🏽‍♀️I would recommend this series for elementary kids who are ready for something engaging. It’s a great read aloud series as it brings up lots of topics to talk about and adults might just enjoy it as much as the kids!
