Urd's Well
Mimir's Well is my business. I make and sell Viking style drinking horns. Please check out my Etsy shop!
I use my craft to uplift my culture and to speak out against racism.
Hailsa 🤘 I'm taking commissions for Viking shields and blow horns now.
If you want to commission a Viking shield like mine, it's $500. If you want, you can pay $250 up front and $250 upon completion. I'm still getting my payment methods set up for this so for now, we can use CashApp, PayPal, Facebook Pay or whatever works for you. Just message me.
Blow horn prices start at $100, message me if you're interested.
Here's a drinking horn I made tonight which someone commissioned. They could only afford a total of $35 including shipping, so I won't be adding paint or resin, but I might cost the outside with eco friendly non-toxic shellac. This is made from a water buffalo horn, it's about 9-10 inches long. I actually feel bad when people can't afford my horns, because I put a lot of love into my horns. I want to do as much good in life as I can before I lose my faculties, mentally or physically, so I put a lot of magic into my horns in the hopes it will create lasting blessings for people. But there's cost of production. So if anyone ever wants to donate to Mimir's Well, to help people who are poor to be able to have my horns, please let me know.

Ölrúnar skaltu kunna, ef þú vill annars kvæn
véli-t þik í tryggð, ef þú trúir;
á horni skal þær rísta ok á handar baki
ok merkja á nagli Nauð.
"Ale-runes learn, | that with lies the wife
Of another betray not thy trust;
On the horn thou shalt write, | and the backs of thy hands,
And Need shalt mark on thy nails.
Thou shalt bless the draught, | and danger escape,
And cast a leek in the cup;
(For so I know | thou never shalt see
Thy mead with evil mixed.)" ~ Sigrdrifumal Stanza 7.
The Sigrdrifumal is an ancient Norse Viking poem about the wisdom the Valkyrie Sigrdrifa speaks to Sigurd the Dragon Slayer after he freed her from a curse. In the above quoted stanza, she's teaching him to learn the Ale Runes and inscribe the rune Nauðiz on drinking horns for protection and blessings.
In ancient Norse culture the word "ALU, meaning "ale," was inscribed in runes as a charm on various artifacts. The Ale Runes Sigrdrifa speaks of, are literally those runes, plus Nauðiz.
I study Old Norse sacred poems to learn about how to make and honor drinking horns.
"Shaved off were the runes | that of old were written,
And mixed with the holy mead,
And sent on ways so wide;
So the gods had them, | so the elves got them,
And some for the Wanes so wise,
And some for mortal men" ~ Sigrdrifumal Stanza 18.
In Norse Mythology, Odin went to the World Tree Yggdrasil and hung himself on it bleeding for nine days, to gain knowledge of our sacred runes. He bled. Then finally he cried out, became awakened, and understood the runes. The Norns had carved in runes the destinies of all beings, on the tree trunk, and Odin scraped the runes off and mixed them into the sacred mead as a gift for all beings.
Hugrúnar skaltu kunna, ef þú vilt hverjum vera
geðsvinnari guma;
þær of réð, þær of reist,
þær of hugði Hroftr af þeim legi,
er lekit hafði ór hausi Heiðdraupnis
ok ór horni Hoddrofnis.
"Them Hropt arranged, | and them he wrote,
And them in thought he made,
Out of the draught | that down had dropped
From the head of Heithdraupnir,
And the horn of Hoddrofnir." ~ Poetic Eddas, Sigrdrifumal stanza 13.

Hailsa 🤘 I am Uncle Hraefnar. I own Mimir's Well, my drinking horn business.
It's named after the Well of Mimir, from Norse Mythology. In Norse Mythology Mimir was a giant, and the uncle of Odin. He was the original guardian of the sacred well over which the three roots of Yggdrasil grow. Yggdrasil is the Cosmic World Tree on which all the worlds grow.
The most important horn in Norse Mythology is connected with Mimir's Well. It is Known as "Gjallarhorn." Most know it as the warhorn Heimdallrs the Guardian of Asgard will blow on Ragnarok, to awaken the gods. But it's also a drinking horn - yes, warhorn-drinking horn combinations can be made. Mimir's Well possesses waters which can grant divine sight, so Odin once went to Mimir's Well and asked Mimir what he must do to drink from it. Mimir told him to sacrifice an eye, so he plucked out one of his eyes and placed it in the Well. So Mimir gave Odin Gjallarhorn for him to drink the sacred waters, and this gave Odin enlightenment.
In Norse Mythology an "eye" can be defined as any vessel or medium þrough which one may see, physically, mentally or otherwise. In this way, Gjallarhorn is an eye, because it is the vessel through which Odin could experience the sight granted by Mimir's Well. I see the spirit of Gjallarhorn as present and expressed in my drinking horns. To me, these horns are sacred. These horns are eyes, through which people can see wisdom.

Here are some custom horns I recently made for someone, and a video of him showing ðe horns after receiving ðem!
Here's ðe story. He was given 5-7 years to live, he's in year 6. He wanted a drinking horn to be cremated wið him, so he could take it to Goddess Hel in ðe Underworld and, hopefully, if She likes it, she'd send him somewhere good. He also wanted two horns for his daughters, so ðey could have someþing of him after he passes. However, instead of having me craft a horn specifically for him and Hel, he chose a horn in my online store which I made in dedication to Goddess Eir. So I'm actually glad he wants to commission anoðer custom horn from me. As for ðe ones for his daughters, I crafted ðem special for his daughters.

My business is named after the Well of Mimir.
In the Mythology of my people, Mimir was a Giant who guarded over a sacred well of water. The three roots of Yggdrasil, the Cosmic Tree, grow over Mimir's Well. Anyone who drinks from Mimir's Well, attains wisdom.
Once, Oðinn, Chief of the Aesir Gods, went to Mimir's Well and asked Mimir what he had to do to earn the right to drink from the well. At first Mimir was resistant, but Oðinn persisted, so finally Mimir said, "You have to sacrifice one of your eyes into the well."
Without thinking, Oðinn plucked out one of his eyes and placed it into the well. So Mimir took out Gjallarhorn, a sacred drinking horn which is also a blow horn, and gave it to Oðinn to drink with. Oðinn drank from Mimir's Well and gained divine wisdom, Oðinn awakened.
Later, the Aesir Gods and Vanir Gods came to make a truce and end their war. When they met, they all spat into a container to symbolize their combined words. Wanting to preserve this symbol, Oðinn shaped the collective saliva of all the gods and goddesses into a new god, Kvassir. Kvassir was so wise he could answer ANY question. Later on Kvassir, the Word of the Gods made flesh, was murdered by dwarves, but his blood was used to create the sacred Mead of Poetry, which can grant enlightenment. Now when the deities made their truce, they exchanged hostages.
To the Vanir, Oðinn gave Mimir and Hœnir. Because Hœnir looked like a leader, the Vanir thought they could make him their chief. To the Æsir the Vanir gave Njorðr, the Ocean God, and his children. When they made Hœnir chief, as long as Mimir whispered to him, he lead well, but whenever Mimir was gone, Hœnir would say, "Let the others decide," when he was asked to make decisions. This made the Vanir think Oðinn tricked them, so they cut off Mimir's head and sent it to Oðinn.
Oðinn preserved Mimir's Head wið herbs and galdr magic. This kept Mimir's head alive so Oðinn can keep Mimir as a guide. Oðinn then went back to Mimir's Well, put Gjallarhorn into the well, and made Heimdallr the Guardian of Asgard, it's owner. It is prophesied, when Ragnarökr the end of the World comes, Heimdallr will take Gjallarhorn out of Mimir's Well, blow it, and awaken the Gods from sleep.
